I'm now a senior at SLVHS and I have to say that I've really enjoyed it for the past three years. Although there are issues, as there are with all schools, I think that given the small size, SLV has done pretty well for itself. We have a vast array of classes to choose from, although I would like a few more, and whichever classes we don't have are usually offered either with classes at other schools or through Cabrillo College. I think that our sports system is very solid since we are one of the only schools in the area with a pool, we have a brand new football field, and plenty of outdoor space. I also like the location for this reason because we can use the trails in the woods for P.E. The one thing I would say is lacking is our diversity, although I feel that our lack of diversity is primarily caused by the majority white population in the area as a whole. Overall, I think SLVHS is a very unique school and is a hidden gem in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

I have been a student here for 3 years and it has been a good experience. There are a lot of good teachers. I think that the English department does a great job with the classes, I've enjoyed all of the English classes I've had here. Overall this is a great school to go to!
I think the best thing I can say for SLV is that they had a pretty good staff -- a few excellent and very passionate teachers, and a counseling staff with very clear instructions for making the most out of one's high school experience. I appreciated the counseling office's policy toward getting everyone through high school, and many into college; counselors meet with each grade in small groups once or twice a year, walking everyone through scheduling their next year's classes and taking quizzes and surveys to help students understand themselves in order to pick a future major/career. While many, including myself, found this very in-your-face counseling irritating (and very biased toward the academic), I feel that it enabled me to take (and pass) way more AP classes than I ever would have thought to take. I would highly recommend taking the AP track if you attend this school, because that is where I personally found the most passionate and challenging teachers.
