As educators, my husband and I know what to look for in terms of "style versus substance" of schools that claim to be able to focus on academics, social emotional learning, diversity, inclusion, equity, mindfulness, kindness and respect. We are blown away at how exceptional SD is at providing all of these things for our daughter. My husband was literally in tears at the back to school night after hearing about the details and intentionality around the lesson plans and approach to literacy and math, as well as the social and emotional aspects of learning in and out of the classroom. The teachers are masters and know what they are doing, and they are provided with the resources and professional development to provide an excellent research-based curriculum to the students. I've worked at many independent schools for more than a decade and SD stands out as one of the best schools that I've encountered in my history as an educator. We are so grateful that our daughter has SD!
A purpose-driven education drew us to SD for our kids in 3rd and 9th grades in 2021. 3rd grade encourages kids to connect with passions and the needs of the world. High school seeks purpose in classes like world religions, philosophy, global studies & electives, sports, assemblies, spring trips and community service.
Faculty have consistently kind and respectful communication, an expectation of inclusivity, and positivity. Our 3rd grader who can be shy loves school and riding the bus. Our high schooler is developing relationships and felt comfortable enough to join a sports team.
Academics are excellent. Our 3rd grader's learning differences are supported by teachers, a counselor, and tutoring onsite. Our high schooler was given the tools to step up to the challenging curriculum and he's independently managing his work.
Care and consideration goes into every detail. Students benefit from the school's maturity and quest for improvement and innovation.

We have been thrilled with San Domenico, please go tour! It offers a highly academic program for our kids but it keeps competition and bullying at bay; the school has a strong emphasis on community, helping kids find purpose in their work, and treating others with respect. You will quickly be floored by the impressive resources, namely a 500-acre campus, an entire Music Conservatory, multiple gyms and theaters, a state-of-the-art Aquatic Complex. And the emphasis on community isn't just talk; it's thoughtfully incorporated into the school's programs. Frequently, meetings begin with a "reflection" before diving into an agenda. It really is a magical place--for kids and parents alike!
