This is such a great High School! It doesn't fit into the traditional mold of a High School, so if you're artsy, or creative, or not into sports, this is a terrific option. Great academics, terrific vibe, solid sports for those who want it, and a great social scene. I can't imagine having gone anywhere else for my high school education, and this school has helped me pursue my true passions!
I'm a senior this year, and I loved my time at SDA! If you're accepting, creative, and kind, SDA is for you. If you're really academic and are looking for a hs with a strong robotics club and teachers that enjoy chatting with you about class content, SDA is also the place for you! Not all of our sports are the strongest, but we have a few really competitive sports teams (like soccer and tennis). SDA is probably the least stressful school in the district, not because it's easier but because the teachers genuinely care about the students and want to set them up for success. Same with the faculty and staff. The principal and all the APs know the majority of the student body by name, and it's not weird for them to ask how you're doing. BIG surfer/skater community (but that could be more about location than school). I love that I can see the ocean from some of the classroom windows, too!
San Dieguito Academy is an incredibly diverse and tolerant school. The school's motto is "keep SDA funky" and it certaintly lives up to that - the school separates itself from others in creating an environment that is inclusive and feels safe. It also has great academics by offering a wide range of classes and APs to choose from. It offers tons of electives that other schools don't, such as autoshop, woodshop, and other unique artistic and applied science classes. Unlike other schools, it also has a 4x4 schedule, meaning you only take 4 classes per quarter, but switch classes every semester. This means the classes are fast-paced, which challenges students and brings about the best in their academic rigor. My one complaint with SDA is the fact that they don't have a football team. I feel that SDA misses out on the school spirit and unity that having a football team brings, and it is something they should definitely try to add to their program in the future. All in all, SDA is great.
