I'm a senior at San Dieguito Academy, and I've absolutely enjoyed my time there. The teachers really care about their students and love to get involved in clubs, events, and student's lives (in an appropriate way). The students, generally, are very welcoming and friendly, and made a new, scary experience pleasant. SDA also has a very large variety of classes, and the schedule allows for students to participate in a lot of them. No matter who you are, you'll find your niche here in SDA's wild and welcoming culture. Keep SDA funky!
Since my first day at SDA, I immediately bought into the idea of a safe, accepting, and caring community. From teachers to classmates, everyone made school enjoyable. The amazing 4x4 schedule allows you to explore so many options and is almost specialized to help you pan out a plan after high school. While it can be difficult to manage at times, if you stick with it and show grit, it will only help. #1 advice: Don’t be afraid to ask for help, all if not most of the teachers are trusted adults and only want the best for your development and future. Go Mustangs!
SDA provides countless opportunities to connect and feel apart of the school and culture. While in most schools it is "cool" to have the latest designer handbag, at SDA if you bring a cute thrifted bag you will receive about 40 comments. All I can say is that having either late start or hour lunch every Wednesday is truly the most amazing thing ever. There is no need to fit in! Art, fashion, skateboarding, surfing, and even gaming are always promoted. There are so many resources to go to if you are struggling and mental health is looked at as most important. It feels like almost all of the teachers truly care about you as more than a student. My only complaint is the lack of school spirit. It is almost "uncool" to be an athlete and hardly anyone other than parents show up to games. Also, the bathroom hand dryers are absolutely awful.
