Our school is the first Louisiana parish to try out BYOD. We are allowed to have our phones at school for learning purposes but may use them in the hallways, between classes, and at lunch for personal use. We have a great system of knowing when we are allowed to be on them and when we are not. This has prevented in-school detention from phone violation, which has helped to keep kids to spend more time in the classroom versus in ISI. This has also helped enhance our education by increasing our learning time since it’s only a click of a button to get the information we need. Our school has so many programs, clubs, and athletics for all kids to join. This helps keep our students involved in the community. Sam Houston has plenty of school spirit too! Everyone loves cheering on the broncos on Friday nights and the student section is one of the funnest places to be in Moss Bluff! I love my school and everything it has done for me.
I like the environment of Sam Houston and the opportunities I am open to. I enjoy the clubs I am part of including Hospitality Team and FCCLA. One of my favorite things about Sam Houston is the Family and Consumer Sciences courses. Mrs. Bourgeois and Mrs. Johnson have taught me leadership and responsibility through the Hospitality team and FCCLA. I am truly grateful for how helpful they have been throughout my high school experience. All teachers at Sam Houston are extremely kind, generous, and helpful to the students. One thing I would change about my school is the counselors could do more to help the Seniors prepare for college and explore our choices and decisions for academics, scholarships, financial aid, and overall readiness.
Sam Houston High School has brought me so much joy through the years. Freshman year the very first year of high school I had just moved to Moss Bluff. So the first day of high school I didn't know anyone there. But, the students and staff at Sam Houston made me feel so welcomed. The teachers at Sam Houston are some of the best in my opinion. They work hard for what they do. Even after covid all of Sam Houstons staff have worked so hard to try to keep this school year as normal as possible. Ever school in America has gone through a lot of the year 2020. Sam Houston High School got through all of that. Sam Houston went through covid and then it went through two hurricanes and after all of that we were finally able to start school in November. Doing online school for the 1st 9-weeks and the 2nd 9-weeks in person all at the same time. But Sam Houston got through it all. And I am so proud to say that I am a Sam Houston High School Bronco.
