Personally, my high school experience was not bad. Before Covid, the last three years of high school were fun and enjoyable. We had assemblies every Friday, class competitions to win a trophy, most of the students were involved in clubs, and everyone got to see their friends. There have been some struggles shifting to the new "normal" but high school has still been a great experience.
This school is in a small town. When driving by you may notice how relatively small the school is, you may also notice that the middle school is connected to the high school. Beyond how the school appears, Salem Senior High consist of unique friendly students and teachers. I believe that every student has the ability and opportunity to really connect with each of their teachers. Having a connection with you teachers really helps you strive to do your best. Salem Senior High encourages their students to get out into the real world and get a feel for their career. Salem has multiple classes and organizations that let you do just that. Salem has internship, construction trades, and RTI and RTC all of which are designed to prepare you for your future. Salem Senior High is a great place to learn and blossom into who you aspire to be.
Salem R-80 is an okay school at most. The teachers couldn’t care less if you turn in work or if you pass. The school board doesn’t consider the impact of events on students. The administration only cares about what looks good. Within 4 years, I never seemed to learn any valuable skills other than how to read a recipe, and I took classes that should have prepared me. Salem R-80 needs a revamp badly.
