The extracurricular activities at Salem Jr. High are mainly focused in sports and student council. Sports receive a lot of promotion and participation, making our programs some of the best in the district. Student Council is also very popular, though it is an elected extracurricular, many students run for council and love the experience when they have the opportunity to be a part of the activity. The after-school and other clubs offered during school have little participation and commitment. The most popular options for during-school clubs include movie-watching activities, art activities, sport inter murals, and some 4-H clubs but those typically don't receive many people. The administration supports all activities but mainly support sports programs.

Most of the teachers are passionate about the subject they teach and if students succeed. Some are less concerned about this, though their classes are also good. The curriculum taught is fair, though not very challenging. The homework load is also fair, though most of it is not vital to students success. Curriculum in English specifically could be enhanced to include more real-world application. The scheduling process is relatively simple, you sign up for classes and the counselors assign you to them and transfers are available if needed, though for a fee. Online classes are somewhat discouraged for students to take, and the process for signing up for them can take a while. Some of the popular classes include, Foods, Yearbook, Art, Body Conditioning, and Exploring Technology.
I have enjoyed Salem Junior High throughout all of my years there. The sense of inclusion and school spirit there are amazing. The student body is all very nice and including. I remember my first day almost 10 other students came up to me and introduced themselves almost immediately, I was so impressed by that. I love the opportunity each year to participate in the annual school poetry slam, school dances, and other student activities. The administration is very nice towards the students, planning fun extra activities for students and providing us with many opportunities to learn new things including new technology, many sports teams, and extracurricular activities. I also love the teachers there that support me and encourage me. If I could do it all over again, I may have chosen Salem for their great teachers, incredible student environment, and fun activities. I only wish the classes were a bit more challenging and there was less of a focus on the sports teams and more on academics.
