Overall, I received an amazing education at this school. I am now a senior here and have been in this school since I was a freshman. Academically, I had an awesome high school career, but socially I struggled due to some bullying I endured my freshman and sophomore year. I would like to see staff work harder to prevent bullying, and I wouldn't change anything academically other than the fact that we are on a seven point grading scale instead of a ten point grading scale like Roanoke city schools. Yes, the grading scale we have now is pushing students to work harder for grades, but when you're on the A/B line and you've put all of your effort into an assignment and still come out with a B, it is extremely frustrating and isn't giving the incentive to do better since your best isn't seen as good enough,

Salem was an interesting school where they are one of the lesser funded schools in the area, they have probably the worst building out of all of the high schools in a 20-mile radius. However; they have some of the best teachers, amazing extra curricular programs, such as a 5A level band, 3 years in a row state championship football team as well as an ongoing streak of forensics state titles going for more than 15 year now.
I liked high school a lot! Salem is a small town, and it very involved with the high school's sports. It is nice for everyone to always act like a family. I cheer for two year for football and basketball. So, I honestly got to see first hand that support and love from the athlete and the supporters.
