My experience was pretty traumatizing, as were my friends'. From the age of 9, I witnessed the sexualization of elementary school girls, including myself. This was because this Islamic school forces girls to wear a headscarf and cover their body completely from head to toe beginning from fourth grade. This of course was to prevent men from lusting after our prepubescent bodies, or so we were indoctrinated. The toxic atmosphere also creeps into the social life and student interactions there. Because of the constant shame children are subjected to for interacting with the opposite gender, a culture of gossip and animosity. Academically speaking, Salam School pushes way too hard to fit the delusion of a 'challenging and rewarding college-prep school'. In reality, most students are below average in their studies, which is most obvious in the average ACT score: 18. Students are put under too much pressure to 'succeed' through excessive amounts of homework given by unprofessional teachers.

I appreciated most of my teachers and their will to see me succeed. I also enjoyed the small classes and the overall air had a motivation to work. The school also, being religious provided much opportunity for the religion to be practiced. However, I feel that the school still has yet to provide an experience geared more towards student desire than to college striving. It also did not have many clubs or extra curricular activities that allow students to have experience and build on certain talents. The school also cracks down on many students for mundane acts, however it has yet to create an environment that does not degrade the students or allow the students to bully each other.
I loved the school because of the many opportunities to do great. I love how the school challenges you to work hard, but doesn't overwork you like other schools. The school is also great because they provide a great Islamic education to their students who are able to learn about their religious history and how the rules work in their religion. Overall if you are looking into a great Islamic school to choose, I would say this is the perfect pick.
