Aquinas is great if you're "in"- I, unfortunately, wasn't. I enrolled in Aquinas because when I visited they talked about their wonderful tight knit community... to their credit, they didn't lie. The community is so tight knit that about one third of the students are excluded from it altogether! As far as teachers go, there are a few absolutely amazing teachers but enough bad apples to make your life miserable. There are several sports teams at the school who are vastly more successful than the football team, but football gets most of the funding and attention. Diversity of any kind here is hard to find- especially diversity of thought... which is unsurprising considering people with opinions or thoughts that go against the community norm are ridiculed and ostracized. I miss the few great people I met at Aquinas, but most people I met were not very kind to me. If you fit the mold, Aquinas will be amazing, just be aware that it might leave something to be desired if you don't.
Saint Thomas Aquinas is an excellent school! It focuses deeply on the education of their students and on furthering their faith. What I love most about Aquinas is the community; you are always welcomed with a smile and everyone is like family. The school actively supports charities and the homeless around the area, like school supply drives and basic needs drives. Aquinas also takes our canned food drive seriously, raising over 200,000 cans in the past years. We also have the best school spirit and we cheer on our excellent teams with pride. The community at Aquinas is unmatchable, and you can always count on others to make you feel like you belong.
I graduated from Aquinas and to this day am a proud alum. I am still close friends with many people I met at Aquinas. The biggest gift Aquinas gave me was preparing me for college. Through their dual enrollment with Johnson County Community College I was able to take many classes for college credit my junior and senior years. This gave me much more flexibility when I moved away to college and I already had an idea of the workload that would be expected of me. The Can Drive is one of my favorite memories and nothing beats singing the Alma Mater at a sports event. Amor Vincit Omnia, once a Saint, always a Saint!
