Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy Reviews
Rating 3.65 out of 5 57 reviews
Coming from a background in homeschooling, I was uncertain of how I would fit in at Saint Joe's. The teachers were understanding and welcoming, which allowed for a smooth transition regarding the workload. The sports and extracurriculars allowed me to engage in the student body and learn life skills that I will carry with me throughout my life. Last year, I discovered my passion for business and was enthusiastically aided by excellent teachers who wanted to help me develop my skills through specific clubs and specialized classes. However, no school is without flaws, and during my first two years, the school's administration was very disorganized and lacked sound leadership. After an abrupt change in leadership, the school immediately shifted toward a more organized and assertive culture. This demonstrates that Saint Joe's not only adapts to change but embraces it and utilizes its resources to provide a comfortable, yet professional environment that motivates students to flourish.
I'm a senior here and my 4 years has been tiring. There's good qualities here, events are fun and frequent, some teachers will do extra to help you understand things, and there are many opportunities to join clubs/sports. However, there are a lot of bad qualities. There's a massive amount of teacher favoritism with students, which creates unfair advantages in leadership roles, policies, and treatment of students. It's the same people who get everything handed to them, but the people who work hard never get opportunities because they aren't the favorites. I've seen countless times where the dress code goes ignored for some students who are wearing a hoodie, not wearing a tie, or have shirts untucked. I never see any of these students having to take accountability, but others get in trouble immediately. There's frequent teacher changes which makes learning consistently difficult, some concerning teacher-student relationships, and the school overall is cliquey and an unfair environment.
I am currently a senior at Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy and this school has really developed in my time being here. My freshman and sophomore years were a little rough due to recovering from the pandemic and the administration had some faults. However, coming my junior year, there was a change in administration with principal Anna Rupprecht and assistant principal Mr. Nicholas Astle which caused many beneficial changes. SJCA began doing a lot more during our pillar days especially our service days which involved students more in the community. Unfortunately the staff has changed throughout my time here with some good changes and others bad. Despite these failures, teacher involvement in promoting their student's education was strong throughout those years and remains strong to this day. Paired with this, the new guidance counselor, Mrs. Michelle Robertson, has fully provided the whole school with opportunities for both colleges and scholarships, giving a head start to our future.
