We are very happy with the education our son is receiving at St. Joe’s. Most of the teachers are excellent. We give them a lot of credit for how they have adapted their programs to address the special challenges presented by the pandemic! The administration has been very responsive to every question we have asked along the way. Most importantly, our son is very happy at St. Joe’s. He has made a lot of friends in his classes and through activities. He really enjoys the SJ athletics program. He plays two sports, and the coaching is great. We believe that St. Joe’s is the best all-boys school in the state, and we are happy that our son chose St. Joe’s over all the others.
Great school. Throughout my four years, I have felt nothing but accepted and many of the teachers are more than willing to spend extra time to help students who may be struggling. All students are encouraged to get involved as soon as they step on campus and many students are involved with many different activities around campus. There's a wide variety of clubs that students can get involved in and you're able to start just about any club you can imagine if it's not already offered. There are very competitive sports teams and the student section, the Falcon Flock, is always at the games cheering our teams on.
I’m an alumni of St Joes from over 10 years ago.
Pros: Teachers here were mostly good. They wanted to see the students succeed. The brothers here were usually very nice. A lot of rules and regs and every St Joes student will get a lunch duty at some point. However this provided me a better foundation for the work force than college did.
Cons: Besides no females I thought these were some of the least Catholic/Christian kids I knew. Meaning sex, drugs, cheating, trying to bribe teachers, bullying, and hazing all happened here. Don’t kid your self the boys here didn’t walk around with halos over their heads. Social cliques were also pretty strong. It’d be hard to find a niche here if you weren’t active in a sport.
I understand the review of 2/5 might be a little harsh as this place wasn’t hell on earth. However it did leave me with a bad taste in my mouth for years afterwards.

This was the best four years of my life. There was such a brotherhood at the school and academically I felt challenged in my classes. The teachers were very committed to bringing out the best in each student. The sports offered at Saint Joe's were amazing.
I enjoyed the Bortherhood experience. The high school offered a variety of exciting classes. I was very active in many athletic activities. I really had fun interacting with all of my classmates.
I enjoyed the very welcoming atmosphere and the "brotherhood" of the school. Everyone is very open to befriending one another and we all look out for each other. I would like to see the food service changed as options can be limited and it gets quite pricey to "fill yourself up"
The best aspect of SJHS for me has always been the since of community, which seems lacking in many larger public schools. Additionally, there is a premium placed on being the best student you can be for your own goals and interests, not being shoe-horned into any specific academic or extracurricular box. This is enhanced by an administration and guidance department that genuinely seem to care about students and their well-being. It's because of these advantages that I wouldn't trade my highs school experience for anything.
Very proud Saint Joe's Alum! Excellent academics and athletics. Great community and network. The teachers and Brothers really care about their students.
St Joes is an amazing high school. The school provides for an amazing community and learning environment during some of the most formative years for young men. Best of all the students support one another and build great relationships. Great great school.
St Joe’s offers plenty of opportunities for students to get involved — whether it’s sports, community service, theater, band etc. The academics are also top notch!
I believe that Saint Joseph High School's strengths is that its a college preparatory school, making it appear nice to potential colleges. However, only half of the teachers seem to have any competency or care for the students' success. The school's tuition has increased by thousands since my freshman year while the number of teachers and guidance counselors have decreased.
I have not lived the lifestyle I want by going here. This school is taking away typical high school experiences
Don't waste your money by sending your child here. This school claims "Excellence is a habit" but my kid has not succeeded after graduating from here. This school is a fraud
St. Joes is becoming a brand and the quality of education and respect for the student body is waining.
Best school out there, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. Without such amazing teachers and so many great peers, I’d have never gone to college for free and succeeded the way I have.
I like my school. We are pretty good in most fields and theres improvements to be made but it is a decent school. The teachers could be somewhat better, some are the best in the state while others should not have a teaching licene
St. Joseph High School is a great institution that balances its strong Catholic roots with modern educational philosophy. Students can participate in a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities, such as Med Club and Campus Ministry. The service projects offered through Campus Ministry allow students to provide a positive impact on the community while learning more about the Catholic faith. St. Joseph High School also has a strong athletics program, accumulating numerous county and state titles during its tenure as a parochial powerhouse in New Jersey. However, there are some aspects of the school that are not ideal. There is very limited air conditioning throughout the school, causing the classrooms to become unreasonably hot during summer months. Teachers do not always respond to the needs of the students and often find themselves fixated on maintaining a set lesson plan.
Small all boy school. Great campus. Faculty and staff are very helpful. Competitive sports in the State.
This school is absolutely terrible. Bad teachers, Not much to do on campus, and there's literally no spirit involved here
I graduated with Class of '75. Back then a lot of demands for excellence were placed upon us by faculty members and coaches. The experiences gained prepared me well for a life of leadership in my chosen field, and in service to community-action. Emphasis is classical learning and there is enough one-on-one attention to enable students to explore by learning experiences outside the classroom. Example, I became the Physics teacher one day late in the first semester of a two semester, full year curriculum. At first I thought the teacher was kidding but in fact, he decided I was qualified to lead a classroom on my own and he would stick around long enough to make sure. Try pitching that learning approach in a traditional high school.
