Rye is notable for a very strong education system as well as athletics. The teachers there are one of the best and caring educators in the state. Many students, such as myself, who take rigorous courses, such as AP's, often feel confident going into tests and exams. Athletics are very strong as well as the district provides a lot of funding.

However, this school lacks in diversity in many aspects--racial, ethnic, financial, and social. The lack of racial/ethnic diversity often leads to very apparent ignorance, and lack of knowledge in many areas. Rye is located in one of the most wealthiest counties so I think that speaks for itself. Many people have grown up in Rye so very cliquey friend groups are common, and if you have move as a new student it takes some time to find a group. Many people do find their own group of people, though.

Rye High School, nationally ranked as one of the best public high schools in the country. A title won by pitting students against one another and shaming other students into remission. It's an environment of favorites, driven by donors and entitled children with entitled parent by their side. This high pressure environment pushed students to cope in extreme ways.
I've had an enjoyable time at Rye although I lament it's lack of diversity and wish I'd been more exposed to different perspectives. Despite the lack of diversity, however, students at RHS are on the whole very open-minded and accepting of others. I've had a pleasant experience as an openly out LGBT person without being the victim of or witnessing bullying of any sort.

Most of my teachers have been well-qualified and good at their jobs. A small few have been sub-par or just awful at teaching. The science department in particular I feel is lacking in strong teachers. Rye does have a strong and well-resourced art department for a public school, and breeds many creative students by offering an array of opportunities and encouraging artistic accomplishment. The school does a good job of preparing students for the rigor of college, yet the atmosphere is quite competitive and can be challenging to deal with at times, especially for the majority of students with such busy schedules.
