Rye High School Reviews
Rating 4.08 out of 5 90 reviews
The academics and college readiness are fairly strong overall, but the people in charge of administration are uniquely terrible at their jobs. Though there are many issues in the way the school is run, the most important one to me is clubs and activities. Rye is not a poor town by any means, and our school are increadibly well funded. That being said, clubs at Rye High School see little of this money. This year's budget allocates $40,000 just for a graduation ceremony, but does not even grant clubs $15,000 in total. In addition, students are not even able to fund their activities themselves. The administration is extremely strict when it comes to bake sales, and heavily discourages outside funding. When asked if students can pay for things themselves, the administration has also said that students should not have to for fear of students not being able to afford these things (despite providing no alternatives).
Rye High School is a school that is very much academic and athletic. The school spirit here is strong and many students here are nice and inclusive. The cafeteria in the high school gives you a wide variety of options to choose from (grilled section, main lunch, sandwich station, salad bar, etc.)Teachers are, for the most part, very outgoing with students, which increases the level of participation and fun in class. Academic wise, Rye High School does a good job preparing students for college and makes sure students maintain a good grade. Teachers have x-periods, which are times after school to help students study for an exam, go over any questions/material, or to talk with students. Teachers even make sure and are aware of tests in other classes and try not to have them all on the same day. This keeps students less stressed and able to maintain a steady schedule they can follow (since they also do sports or clubs, etc.).
As a sophomore student at Rye HS, I'm so grateful for every teacher and student here!!! This is an awesome school with a charming beachside community. Teachers here are friendly and knowledgeable, always giving practical supports to their students. The vibe of the school is very good for learning, and all the students here are ambitious and intentional. I love being in Rye High School and thank you to all teachers here that helped/will help me through the four years!
