Rubidoux High School gets depicted as a school of trouble, no opportunity, and in recent years it has received negative images towards it. Rubidoux is secretly a great school, filled with unique and amazing teachers who express their subjects based on their passion and experiences and only want the best for their students. The administration is amazing, excelling in putting their best to make the academic environment to become more inviting and the pursuit of an education more appetizing. An example of this is the College & Career Center which has gained enormous momentum in the last 4 years that I have attended, and helps expand students’ preparation to transition from high school to college/university, or straight into the workforce. There are student groups to avoid, as any other high school. But for the most part, the surrounding student environment is great, students are kind to others and clubs and organizations only push students to be even greater to one another.

During my experience At Rubidoux High School, I really appreciated all the tremendous amount of effort the staff contributed towards the campus. Coming from a low income neighborhood, Rubidoux High School attempts to provide an abundance amount of resources towards the students and ensures that the needs of their students’ needs are met. The office staff and the academic staff both work overtime to assist first generation students by providing college resources, college information, and the opportunity to gain a college education. I graduated last year and although Rubidoux High School is looked down upon by surroundings neighbors, I can say for a fact that I am proud to be a Rubidoux High School Alumni. Till this day, I can still call staff members and former students of Rubidoux High School family because in all my four years I was treated as family.
Personally, my experience in Rubidoux High School held the most unexpected memories. By that, it was my first year of high school and I already dealt with miscommunication within the teachers and staff. Students found out prejudice commentary from 7 teachers on Facebook where even I felt some type of anger. The campus may have ended with a walk-out during lunch, but I realized within this incident, we all came together. Students protested in the middle of the quad with chants, students went on Twitter and even made Telemundo News go on our campus to discuss the situation. I may have started with a bad experience, but I can say that I wouldn’t choose another community like Rubidoux, to come together even with horrific situations.
