From Roycemore School

For over 100 years, Roycemore has helped students unlock their passion and talents to prepare them to live extraordinary lives!

One of our hallmarks is the ability to differentiate and deliver a college prep program without a pressure cooker environment. Our commitment to differentiation results in greater engagement, plus learning and understanding of subject matter that is both deeper and longer lasting.

Whether in early childhood where children use the same materials but complete activities at different levels, or in the Upper School where students can take classes at Northwestern University at no additional tuition, Roycemore’s commitment to differentiation provides for a student-centered environment where children thrive.

With low student-teacher ratios, we can differentiate in ways other schools cannot. We believe this helps students Engage MORE. Because of such engagement, they Achieve MORE. And with that achievement they Become MORE. This is the MORE of Roycemore.

I have been a Roycemore parent since 2003; all my children are either alums or currently enrolled.
Academics are consistently top-notch. They offer differentiation every step of the way, challenging each child at their level. Writing is emphasized throughout the school in a variety of ways, from extemporaneous in-class writing to detailed research reports to personal essays to creative stories. The science curriculum is strong, with lab work at every level.
Extracurricular offerings are slim compared to bigger schools, but students learn how to mentor each other so that the team can be the best possible.
The arts curriculum here is superb. Ruth Hecht is an excellent artist and an excellent teacher.
It is a small school with challenging academics and high expectations. It helps set a foundation for the remainder of the child's life, not only with academic and intellectual skills, but also with emotional maturity, interpersonal relations, and social and civic engagement.

Roycemore was an amazing and nurturing place, and I can't think of anywhere else where I would have wanted to spend my childhood. I attended Roycemore from JK through 12th grade. I loved that the small class sizes and progressive ideology of the school allowed me to have choice in my learning, participate in hands-on projects, and form close relationships with my teachers. I always enjoyed going to school, and was usually one of the first kids there, and the last to leave! My freshman year of high school, my parents wanted me to try out the local public high school, but after a semester, I was back at Roycemore. I've yet to see another school that provides the individualized and supportive care that Roycemore does.
Best parenting decision ever for our seven-year old. Here is why:

The faculty: The teachers are incredible and genuinely care for each single child. Great teacher to student ratio (1/14) and excellent leadership.

The diversity: 48% students are non-Caucasian. The school models a sense of social responsibility by taking part into community-oriented projects.

Differentiation: The pedagogical approach is all about differentiation. In the lower school, the kids break up into need-based groups across two grades (first and second, third and fourth) for reading and math, with support from a gifted coordinator. Academics are very strong.

Ethics: The lower school participates in a great program that emphasize “seven habits” including collaboration, respect for others, self-motivation, organization, etc. The teachers design imaginative activities prompting the kids to apply those habits in real life.

The space: The facilities are bright, clean, and colorful.

    WE LOVE ROYCEMORE!
