My overall experience at Roosevelt has been good! I'd say that the best part of my experience was being apart of Best Buddies, Sharks Synchronized Swimming Club, and going to the football games. I wish that the school prepared me for college more. At Roosevelt attendance didn't really matter, there were always second opportunities, and homework couldn't be graded. I had to prepare myself for college by having detailed conversations with my counselor. Sadly, the academics weren't a great part of my experience but all the teachers did try their best and genuinely cared about their students.
As a common community school, Roosevelt High School is an inspired school for students in any fine art, sport or student body club. My experience in this school from 2014-2018 (2018 graduation) was the assured reason of wanting to be a Graphic Designer and Vocal Coach. From the late nights constructing sets for an up a coming performance to the early morning vocal competitions to the mid-day award art exhibits. Through thick and thin I'd never turned back on my experiences. And I would bring along the trust and friendship skills my teachers and fellow alumni had taught me.
Overall the school environment is very diverse when it comes to the students that attend, but the staff doesn't match that. There are many positions of power that many students wish were filled by staff that looked like them or they knew had the same experiences as them. It could be a lot better, whether that be student participation and future preparedness for students in general. There are a lot of things that could be changed about getting students in the classroom and caring about their work also.
