Rolling Meadows is an overall great school. With challenging academics, friendly staff, and inclusive students, my experience here has been really fun. The diversity we have is also really great!
Rolling Meadows High School was one of the first places where I felt free to explore my educational and social settings. Like almost any high school, there were teachers who were passionate about their jobs and sharing their dedication to learning and development with students, just as there were teachers who displayed far less passion on a daily basis. Luckily, the former group far outranked the latter, and as a student, I was similarly inspired by staff to think more deeply, question what needed to be questioned, and push for more personal and group success. The school also offered numerous after-school activities to connect with students, although often I noticed students, including myself, feel pressure to join as many extracurriculars as possible not because of total enjoyment of the subject but to stand out during college admissions, which often lead to more stress and scheduling difficulties that were in the end largely unnecessary.
Overall, I had a great experience at Rolling Meadows High School. I involved myself in many things and was always busy. I took AP classes, participated in sports, and took part in class council and NHS. All the teachers I had were caring, passionate, and always willing to help. Because of the classes I was in and the teachers I had, I felt like I was prepared academically for college. I do think though that they could have done a better job of preparing us for what college is… the experiences and responsibilities that come along with living away from home. It’s something that most seniors don’t want to hear about because it is a waste of time; however, I think it would have been beneficial to get some more alumni in who were willing to share their different experiences on multiple occasions. They did it once a couple months before we graduated but I would have loved to have had more personal connections with some alumni while being at the high school.
