My daughter has been at RSS for 3 yrs and is currently in Kinder. The school is a nurturing place for children to begin their schooling experience. My daughter was struggling with separation, but the school allowed for a gentle process that allowed her to attach to her teachers naturally. The classes have an excellent teacher/ student ratio and also include "floaters" that come in for added attention. The social emotional curriculum is strong and a priority. The children are also extremely pepared for the more academic elementary grades. My daughter is so proud of her reading, writing & numbers skills! The school's small size and down to earth constituency lend itself to a warm, involved community for students, families & admin. All of these strengths are grounded in meaningful Jewish values. While I did not anticipate a Jewish education, I now cannot imagine anything else. I must add: the school handled COVID extremely well; from communication to safety, I am in awe & grateful.
This was our first year at RSS (entering K). We have been blown away by the sense of community, warmth and education. We were looking for an environment where our son would be academically challenged in a nurturing and supportive setting + have fun. As a family we wanted to be with other families who shared our values and would welcome us! This is exactly what our experience has been. The sense of community and warmth never ceases to amaze me - parents, teachers and students are all welcoming and inclusive. The academics have been great - individualized, supportive and challenging. Our son has learned so much this year…from reading and writing to Hebrew, as well as really building out math strategies (he is a big math lover). There is focus on values and creating socially conscious citizens of the world. And importantly for him lots of fun, both in the classroom, in specials like music, art and yoga and in great after school programming. We (and he!) couldn’t be happier!
My two older children are alumni of RSS and my youngest is a current student. My older children went on to outstanding high schools and top universities. My youngest is nearing the end of her RSS journey. It is a warm and nurturing school with top notch academics. The faculty and staff are kind and caring. Graduates are very well prepared for rigorous independent and public high schools. Kids are given opportunities to explore, understand and question their Jewish identities, with a solid foundation in the values of service, compassion and the pursuit of justice. They develop a love of learning and the academic and interpersonal skills they need to succeed in life. It is a special, unique school.
