Rochambeau, French International school is an amazing place to spend your highschool years. Enriched by a multi-cultural student body, Rochambeau has the mix of rigorous academia and a fun social life. The school is primarily taught in French, following the Baccalaureate curriculum. Students are given the option of classes they wish to develop as their "specialties': these include Humanities, Philosophy and French Literature, Social Economic Science, Political Science, Physics, Biology, and Maths. Most teachers are extremely insightful and engaging, and show off an extremely impressive resume from working at international schools around the world. One disadvantage that the school has would maybe be it's limited class size (200 in whole highschool) However, this could be considered a good thing as most students are really close.Overall, the bi-lingual education that is offered with the IB system serves as extremely good preparation to college, while still being a formative experience.

Our two children have attended Rochambeau for seven years. We have been quite pleased overall. Our children love school, their friends and have become responsible, organized, self motivated students.
Positives - Experienced, highly educated and accessible faculty, strength of the French curriculum combined with a strong English department offering a number of levels, after school clubs, numerous school sports teams, music and theatre options, diverse parent community. Most students who continue thru high school graduate fluent/proficient in three languages. Small classes compared to public schools. Fantastic school trips. Graduates receive both a US high school diploma and the French Bac. Many attend top US, French, Canadian and European universities/colleges.
Negatives: Faculty changes, not a "neighborhood" school (many students commute far), students work hard both at school and at home, may be too rigorous depending on your child.
Enmeshed in a community of students from sixty different nationalities and a myriad of cultures, I consistently learn from my peers at the French International School which can be compared to a miniature United Nations.

Going from a lesson on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, to an exam on Molière’s Les Femmes Savantes, followed by a discussion on Cervantes’ Don Quixote, my classmates and I smoothly transition in trilingual literary analysis.

At the cafeteria table, meals range from Indian Biryani to Venezuelan Arepa to Vietnamese Bak Chang to French Quiche to Turkish Loukoum.

In my economics class, I collaborate with peers who hail from Serbia, Lebanon, Argentina, Spain, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Cambodia, Cameroon, Germany, Mexico, and France. Linked by common intellectual pursuits, we add our own cultural identities when we investigate socio-economic current events. Often classmates will proffer recollections of childhood memories or news clippings from their native countries.
