From Riverdale Country School

Founded in 1907, Riverdale Country School is a co-educational, independent school serving PreK to Grade 12 in New York City. Located on two campuses, Riverdale offers exceptional facilities and outdoor learning spaces. The core of the school's mission–"mind, character, community"—reflects its rigorous academics, extensive co-curricular offerings, focus on character strength development, and supportive culture. Innovative, research-based teaching in and outside of the classroom inspires purposeful learning. Local and global experiences linked to the academic program develop cultural fluency.

Riverdale encourages students to find meaning and purpose. Independent studies, "passion grants," internships, student-led activities, science research, athletic teams, service-learning, global travel, affinity spaces, and opportunities to meet changemakers in every field allow students to explore how they might make a difference in the world, how they might "change the world for the good."

I’m currently a senior at RCS. I uphold a similar sentiment to everyone else who has acclaim for the institution: for its academic prowess. Nonetheless, I consider Riverdale not only an academically-enriching environment but also one which advances personal character and intellectual independence. Riverdale is not an ordinary, textbook-based, question-and-answer institution. Rather, it fulfills the student’s curiosity by challenging their personal intellectual interests and their personal thinking mechanisms. All students at Riverdale share similar passions yet among them is a thorough diversity of the same. I can affirm to all that Riverdale transformed the manner in which I hypothesize, observe, and deduce regarding academic and real-world subject matter. The student body is ultimately integrated, and all students are bound by a unanimous appreciation for enlightenment and sheer enjoyment for an unparalleled experience.

I believe that Riverdale is a challenging school that prepares students for college. The majority of teachers are amazingly qualified and supportive in and outside of the classroom. The school provides many different options for activities and clubs, both during the school day and after school. As an athlete, I can speak to the dedication the school has to the facilities and coaches for each team. As a captain of one of the school's clubs, I can also speak to the administrative support of student-led projects. The school looks for students to succeed academically and explore subjects that pique their interest outside of the core curriculum. Riverdale could work on their diversity, and increase intersectionality in studies, but I think Riverdale is currently working to make they diverse voices at the school feel heard and seen. Through affinity groups and a new statement on Campus Discourse, the school is making an effort to make students feel physically and mentally safe and accepted.
I have been at this school for 3 years. While I have a great group of friends, there are some white kids who feel privileged and may make you feel less than. The teachers are great and the resources and campus are great! We have our own pool and every student gets their own Chromebook in 6th grade. I would recommend this school because it has many opportunities to discover your talents.
