River Valley Charter School has really helped me to develop a strong relationship with both my teachers and peers, and I am constantly growing as a person by attending this school.

I have heard students who have graduated from River Valley say that their rigorous course work at our school helped them to be very advanced in their college classes, sometimes saying their college classes were easier than those classes at the school!

The 2-day a week environment allows for personal growth, in that you must work sufficiently and independently in order to pass all of your classes. In addition to this, the schedule allows for advanced students to take college classes if they so choose.

My school is a decent school. I feel like it’s better than most but it also lacks very many things. For example, I am very interested I the arts, we have a show choir but it’s not very well out together and we don’t do things like compete. I’d love to see more dance, singing, and especially drama electives. But unfortunately they say we can’t have those if there isn’t enough people to do them, and even if there was they just assume there isn’t. When it comes to academics this school is okay, but there are a few teachers that have spoken political on many occasions when not suppose to, and some of those same teachers honestly suck at teaching, but some teachers they can’t fire due to 10 year, and others I feel like they just wouldn’t want to go through the process of hiring someone new to be honest. There’s also been many times where the seniors get no say in what senior things we do, like fundraising or grad night, etc.
I'd like to give a 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to 4 because that's not an option. There are a lot of positive things about this school, but also some real drawbacks.
They have a bullying problem, but it is covered up by the administration. There are a lot of quirky kids who attend this program and many of them are bullied.
They do have some amazing teachers! Unfortunately their model of 2 days a week of lecture and 3 days of independent study is very unrealistic, and a bit damaging for kids who can't handle the pressure. Sure everyone wants their kids to have AP and honors classes, but only a couple hours a week of instruction to support this? Totally ridiculous. The students are under so much pressure to handle it all, and also do well on test scores so the school looks good. No one stays at the school if they can't succeed, hence their success rates. The place is a pressure cooker!
