River Hill is a great high school! The academics are excellent as well as the athletics. River Hill has amazing programs that fulfill every students needs. One thing I would like to see improve is the diversity within the school. I am currently a senior at River Hill, and my four years have been nothing short of incredible!

The teachers at River Hill either LOVE their jobs, or don't give a crap about teaching & have terrible relationships with their students. Despite being such an academically strong school, the majority of the teachers are TERRIBLE. Compared to other schools in Howard County, RHHS is a pretty safe school and there generally aren't any fights. There is a large variety of clubs to choose from, and it's very easy to get involved. From my experience, this is a VERY cliquey school and its very easy to feel isolated and alone. I tried to reach out for help from my guidance counselors when I felt alone, but they forgot about me and never contacted or checked up with me again. The faculty isn't the best at dealing with mental health, and due to the harshly competitive environment, many people are faced with floating duck syndrome and imposter syndrome. Yes, the academics are amazing, but it comes at a price as many students struggle with mental health issues behind closed doors.
In terms of academics, River Hill is second to none. Generally excellent teachers (particularly in upper level mathematics, chemistry, and fine arts), but there are also departments that are lackluster in comparison (physics, social studies). The culture is uber-competitive in terms of college admission, but students always tend to pursue the clubs and extracurriculars that they so choose. Possibly the best sports school in Howard County, in particular with the soccer, football, xc/track, and tennis teams. The main complaint I have with River Hill is the administration; possibly the most inept, disliked part by students, particuarly in that two of the more liked assistant principals left River Hill a few years ago. Also, safety and mental health is not a priority here and is not emphasized by administration.
