River Hill High School is an amazing school with outstanding academics, sports and extracurricular activities. We are one of the top schools in our county and the education system is in an orderly structure giving all students different opportunities to succeed. Although I take pride in my high school, it is short of one star. River Hill will always be my home, but it is not necessarily a welcoming home. The community and students there are all very competitive and cliquey. At times, even in your own friend groups there will be competition and rivalry, resulting in the ending of a friendship. The academics are so intense that the need to be on top seems to wrap everyone's mind in a trance. River Hill High School is indeed a competitive school, but through the different opportunities, one can meet true friends and happily succeed.

As a rising senior at RHHS, I believe I have an intimate knowledge of the school that is only attainable after being there as a student for multiple years. The physical school campus is quite advanced and they offer to their students a huge plethora of resources to help them be successful during and after their time there. Counselors are always available to speak to for social or academic help, and most all genuinely care about the courses and students that they teach. School spirit at River Hill is a central topic that students can bond over, as different student groups intermix with each other and collaborate to create an even more diverse campus. From the band students enduring close to freezing temperatures for hours at a time to play their hearts out at football games to the breakdance club performing at school assemblies, River Hill students always do their best to elevate the school environment.
The school is amazing, offering an enormous amount of opportunities for self-development and a pleasing studying environment: a lot of different clubs and sports teams; a safe space for students; passionately engaged teachers; always ready to help; an interesting variety of courses, including AP and GT; research department; thorough college preparation.
Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks: an unnecessarily competitive, thus stressful, environment; some teachers, who are just rude and do not know what their class; and the class events organization is not quite strong enough - all the dances and fairs are just not fun.
Overall, the school is undoubtedly one of the best in Maryland at least.
