I definitely came into this school with low expectations. But the school faculty care very deeply about making sure students have a fulfilling education and have a strong foundation for careers or secondary education. We have career pathways for those looking into joining the workforce right after graduating, as well as AP teachers who are willing to put in the time to help students understand concepts. The support for student athletes is incredible as well, specifically on the Tennis team. There is a variety of clubs available, from Interact and Key Club to Black Student Union and Asian Pacific Islander Club. Our school offers free breakfasts, snacks, and lunches for all students. We also have many mental health services available, including a RISE center to ground yourself, and access to psychiatric or therapeutic care. Ultimately this school goes above and beyond for their students and I am grateful to have been able to attend. I would recommend to anyone in the area!
River City High School is a large campus filled with diverse faces of all different races and ethnicities. The campus is outdoors and there's plenty of room to congregate with your friends or to simply walk around. The most notable attribute about this school is the teachers. Many of the teachers on campus whole-heartedly enjoy their jobs and they're excited to guide students towards their goals. One of the best teachers I've had, is my Math 3/ Precalculus teacher. Although I was insecure with mathematics, his guidance was helpful and pushed me to pursue further math courses, such as AP Calculus AB and BC, and for that, I couldn't be more grateful. That isn't to say that this school is without its faults though. One thing I wish could change, is the students' attitude towards academics. Although I surround myself with the top students of my grade, I can see that others do not put forth the same effort in school because they model their effort based on the majority of their peers.
I love the diversity on campus and the appreciation the school has for all various cultures represented on campus through student involvement activities. Not only that, but the various academic pathways granted through programs the school offers are amazing. Students are granted access to courses that allow them to experience hands on work from programs such as culinary and animal sciences to robotics and engineering. The school allows for plenty diverse options when it comes to education and the advanced placement courses are top notch and really challenges students learning and thinking skills.
