I liked Rincon High School because of the diversity and culture. The teachers are well experienced with the school itself and know how to make every student feel welcomed and safe. We share a campus with University High School which gives us a different high school experience. This means we share our sports and electives, which I personally love because you meet other students that are not in your core classes. The outdoor part of the school is beautiful, we have a very well maintained garden which has, chickens, a garden with a variety of vegetables and plant life, all kept up by a group of students and teachers. Although Rincon High is not the most populated high school in the area, I like the size of the school and I do believe sharing a campus with the other high school is better. We all support one another and hope for the best for each other and all our teachers want for us is a bright future. Overall, my experience with Rincon High School has been amazing!
There are a lot of caring teachers with few exceptions. The science classes lacking resources to do experiments that could positively impact the student's understanding. The math teachers vary in the methods in which they teach, some are more focused on using programs like Khan Academy and others are paper-based and this disparity upsets the students. English coursework tends to be very demanding, especially in the AP classes. There is a variety of students from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Rincon shares a campus with University High School. The extracurriculars such as fine arts and sports really provides an opportunity to be friends with students from UHS, since these two schools can have teams together. Sports and fine arts deemed RUHS have proven to be mainly successful by winning awards and getting first place. However, this may also put pressure on the resources available to the students as both RHS and UHS have to share bathrooms, cafeteria, library, and computers.
Rincon High School as of the 2019-2020 academic year is severely lacking in some of the most simple aspects a school should account for, most notable of these are the faculties. The boys restrooms are some of the worst I have seen and used. Faucets do not work properly, broken windows are boarded up, mirror are nonexistent, soap and paper towels are seemingly scarce commodities, and the smell just smacks you in the face even when outside restrooms due to the lack of proper cleaning and doors. The issues are not limited to the boys restrooms. Lunch lines easily average a 15 minuet wait, with cutting and crowding being common. Moreover, the overall environment is far from being "safe." Just within my truncated senior year that was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic, two instances of a possible shooting had occurred. Fights are also extremely common and images of students running across campus to look in awe was just disappointing.
