James Whitcomb Riley High School is the place that I have called my second home for 3 years now. Riley is one of four public magnet schools in the area that focuses on engineering and computer science pathways. This high school is strongly diverse and focuses on building a community within its walls, while also striving for academic and athletic success. Overall, the atmosphere is positive, inviting, and welcoming. If I could change one thing about Riley High School, I would allow more funding into the sports budget. This would allow different sports to provide necessary equipment to athletes for safe practice and training.
I came when we gained a new principal. Mr Henderson is nice and I can tell he really does want good change, it's just slow. The school lunch has gotten better and Mr. Henderson helps to improve and support school events, but really teachers and bad students create most of the atmosphere. All schools will have bad students, and have a decent sized group of bad students, the problem is that every single bad student messes with everyone around them, never just themselves. And half of the teachers do not actually care about the students or there jobs. So many teachers either don't teach much at all or put so much pressure on the students it starts to break them down. Really it's the bad teachers and students that make the school an average experience.
