Ridgway High School Reviews
Rating 3.88 out of 5 26 reviews
I’ve been at Ridgway since I was 4-years-old. As a high schooler, you won’t meet a community of students and teachers who care for each other more than those at Ridgway. Kids who want to do well will be given the tools to succeed. Kids who don’t care will be pushed and have an opportunity to rise. While the school is 99% white, this is not a reflection of a lack of acceptance and kindness, but rather a perpetuating trend on the Western Slope. The school does its best as a small, public school and offers as much college-preparatory and AP classes as possible with a small staff. The ACT/SAT and college application preparation is minimal but these services are something that can be sought out outside of the school in the way of private counselors. Ridgway has given so much to me throughout my education here and I have appreciated the unique opportunities that such a small school and community can provide.
Ridgway is a small rural school. They do a great job with personal interaction with each student and their needs. The only challenge is I have pretty much known everyone in my class since pre-school. But the life style that the community provides is safe and adventurous.
The students at Ridgway support a very lackadaisical point of view, and most indulge in frequent binge drinking and substance usage whenever possible. The administration does what it can but it is the teachers that really positively impact the students here. Magee, Spearman, Shima, Rowe, Wohlrabe, and Evans to name a few teach honesty and kindness above all else. Without them the student population would be lost during and after their high school career.
