When my son attended, he had the strongest teachers for K-4. It was only his 5th grade teacher (who has since retired) who seemed like she was "phoning it in" and really didn't engage well with the students. Unfortunately, his excellent 2nd and 4th grade teachers were also forced to retire, due to pension preservation needs -- a result of the pressure from NJ governor.
The school does provide opportunities to join clubs, and the responsibilities are split between staff (for things like Safety Patrol) and parents (chess club, school newspaper, boy scouts, for example).
The principal at this school holds it all together. She is well trained and involved in every aspect of the school's activities. If you treat her with respect, she will do the same, in kind. She is a good judge of character and always comes across as a polished professional, open to new ideas.
