Ravenscroft will challenge you to lead and learn. At Ravenscroft the teachers treat you as an individual. Ravenscroft offers a wide variety of courses from photography to Honors and AP math, physics and engineering.
As a student who has gone through a majority of the high school process at Ravenscroft, it has been a wonderful experience. The course offerings for electives and extracurriculars are unparalleled, the teachers are incredibly approachable, and the college-prep feel is accurate. College counselors begin to meet with students during sophomore year and continually check in with their assigned students to make sure they are thinking about the college process. The freedoms that students are allowed during free periods, lunch, and community time reflect the expectations of young adults. The amount of new student spaces that are available is amazing too: the Keim Center with all of its new renovations, the Olander Center for Student Life, and all of the modifications actively going on around campus. There is a lot of diversity on campus as well with groups for everyone to fit into. It is truly a welcoming place.
Ravenscroft is a school where staff and students truly connect. Students control their education, and we get a lot of opportunities to grow and create our own paths. Teachers are attentive to their students, and are always available for studnets for any needs. The campus is beautiful; the newly opened Olander Center for Student Life motivates us to come together and socialize or study.
We have had several of our children attend the upper school of Ravenscroft. I can say assuredly you should send your child/children elsewhere. This school does have some very special people working within the walls of the upper school, but they are few and far between. The majority are a group, led by the head of the school, that have little respect for their students and their independent thoughts. The head of school has created an environment of "yes" men and women, even down to her hand picked board members that will agree with her and further her own agenda. It is a school where money talks. You don't make enough to donate or aren't part of the socially connected within Raleigh and surrounding areas, forget trying to have a voice here. It is laughable they try to say that they embrace everyone's views and encourage students to speak for themselves. Not the case. This is an autocracy. Don't be fooled. We plan to complete our short time left and never look back.
Excellent school in every aspect. Great academics, well prepared teachers, respectful classmates and great school resources. Excellent sports facilities and numerous JV and Varsity teams.
Teachers are great but the administration, parents, and students are terrible. Teachers are terribly underpaid especially when parents pay 30,000 a year. Students with learning disorders have to pay more in order to attend. Any child that goes there is groomed to be as bad as the parent that pushed them out.
Discipline should not be an issue. Students should respect others and failure to do so should not be tolerated. Students need to understand school and class rules and expectations, and adhere to them. This is an important issue that should have a better approach.
My daughter has had an outstanding middle school experience at Ravenscroft. Her classes have a strong sense of community and support from other students and faculty. The teachers provide a top notch education along with guiding students to lead themself so that someday soon others will look to them to lead others. The process allows her to be a self-disciplined learner where she pours her heart and mind into learning! Ravenscroft has exceeded all of our expectations.
Blessed and thankful that my youngest daughter is enrolled at Ravenscroft! We came here from the public school system and we haven't looked back. While attending public school, there was always a struggle with getting my daughter motivated to get ready for school. We fought tears and despair lots of mornings only to find out she wasn't being challenged educationally and she needed a different learning style. We've been here for two years and we are still excited to have found an educational environment that works best for her. We love it here!
There are many great things to say about Ravenscroft. Our child began in high school, and there were wonderful programs in place to welcome her and us aboard: New Parent BBQ, Ravenscroft 101, and a partnership with a current family. Having been an educator, several aspects about Ravenscroft made this THE place to be. It offers a rotating schedule-no one has to have a demanding class the first period of every day. Your child will never have the potential to go a year-and-a-half without math, like they would with the public schools' block scheduling. The student-to-teacher ratio is phenomenal. Every teacher is prompt with responses and is extremely communicative about student progress, as are all faculty and staff. All are personable and approachable; they encourage students to visit with them for additional help/resources. The opportunities for extra-curriculars are phenomenal. Respect for everyone is paramount. There is a superb standard of excellence in every regard with this school.
We just changed from a religious, independent school to Ravenscroft for our 6th grader. While we are blessed to be able to send our child to private school, this move has been a substantially better experience. Our daughter is being challenged even more and the resources to help the kids excel are phenomenal. There are far fewer tests here because they place a strong emphasis on collaborative discussion to see how the kids actually know and understand the material. My daughter is engaging deeply in every class and feels like she’s valued and included. I’ve never seen her so excited about her education. She was a straight A student and Duke TiPster and is being pushed academically even more here. This is what we wanted. Her other school administered standardized testing that made it seem like she was excelling in all areas. 2 standardized tests later, 6 mos apart revealed her old school had not challenged her nearly enough and left her at a strong disadvantage. Top notch experience.
We originally considered making the change from public to private school for our girls because we knew would eventually have 3 kids in 3 schools on 3 schedules (year round & traditional). We thought we'd move our oldest to private & have the other 2 follow when they started middle school. Once we toured Ravenscroft, we decided to move all 3 immediately! We were impressed with the arts programs, athletic programs & differentiated learning opportunities. From the 1st open house to now, 2 years later, we are thankful every day we made the change. The girls transitioned easily & were welcomed by new friends. The differentiated education opportunities allow each of them to learn at their own pace. The "Lead From Here" program designed to create citizen leaders is a top focus within the school that starts in pre-k & goes through graduation. The Ravenscroft community of parents is very warm & welcoming. I highly recommend Ravenscroft to anyone considering private school in the Raleigh area.
I have 3 boys that started Ravenscroft in Kindergarten. They are currently in 6th, 8th and 10th grade. My boys are all very different—whatever their passion, whether playing the in the string orchestra, being involved in athletics, or nurturing their interests in a school club, Ravenscroft has been a wonderful fit for all three. Their academics are excellent and the teachers are enthusiastic about their subject areas which shows—they make learning fun. It’s a huge drive for my boys to happily attend each day. The Lead From Here framework has taught them to be resilient, empathetic, inclusive and growth-minded, which I can see firsthand as they encounter everyday problems. Their partnership with the Social Institute has taught them how to be responsible on social media. Whether it’s through academics, fine arts, athletics, or character building, Ravenscroft is truly nurturing the “whole child” and we wholeheartedly recommend it.
Ravenscroft is all that the marketing material says it is... and more! From academics to sports to fine arts- the students have opportunities to grow and learn in so many ways. Academics are an emphasis as they should be.
The school has been very "tight" with restrictions and protocols during COVID, and as a result seems as if there have been very few cases on campus.
Beautiful campus, well kept athletic fields, nice fine arts performance facility and expansion in the athletic and student center.
Parents can get involved in a variety of ways - and easy to do!
Kids are prepared to excel in college and beyond. The Lead From Here curriculum ( in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership) really instills the competencies in the kids whether they realize it or not... and this year... resilience was certainly a part of thier year!

Great, well rounded experience for two students who started in PreK and are now finishing Upper School.
Ravenscroft School strives at preparing students to become independent and intellectual adults that can thrive in college and beyond. The atmosphere of the school, however, is less appealing especially as students reach high school. Although some teachers try to connect with their students and form strong relationships, I have witnessed other teachers make rude remarks to students on multiple occasions.
Overall, I have enjoyed my experience at Ravenscroft school. The teachers and staff members are kind, well qualified, and have great people skills. If I could change anything about the school it would be the limited diversity within the student body.
The teacher staff all shows passion for the subject they teach. They express that they care about the students and their success. There are not many downsides to the school. Their diversity is not the best but it is making progress. They have very good facilities.
Great education. I loved the teachers and the learning that goes on there. They definitely set me up to succeed in college and am very grateful to call myself an alumni.
It provides amazing academic opportunities and does well to prepare students for college. The teachers are amazing and the classes are small so students are able to receive the attention and help they need. The school spirit is lacking a little since the school is smaller however, the administration does a good job setting up pep rallies. It is also very safe with a lock system on every door, each student is then provided with a personal app that allows them to get into the building to prevent strangers from entering and there are police on campus for our safety.
