    • Stilwell, KS

Senior:Blue Valley High School is unique in that it is clear that the teachers truly care about the students and want them to learn and enjoy school. There is a special relationship that most students have with their teachers that is different from the average experience. Something I think could be improved is the overall respectfulness of the students. It is not uncommon to see students leave trash in the hallway, and while it may not be the fault of the school, it still needs to be addressed. But overall, the school is amazing offers a variety of great opportunities for its students.

Senior:I really have enjoyed my time at Blue Valley North and I have the faculty and my fellow students to thank for that. I feel like I have connected with pretty much all of my teachers and I have learned useful information that will help me at the next level in college. Every teacher wanted to help the students and most did exactly that which is what you look for at a good school. The school itself is very academically strong which creates a good atmosphere for learning and success. It is a good place to prepare for college and for life outside of school. There is not much to change at Blue Valley North because no major changes are necessary, it is a good school that does its job well.

High School Senior:I LOVE THIS SCHOOL.I cant write how much i will miss this school when I graduate. some of the reason why i love this school is because it is so diverse. There are so many people who attend here with different backgrounds and cultures, and being from Africa myself, i really appreciate that. Olathe North is not just racial diverse, but we also have so many clubs and people who love all sorts of things. What i mean by this is if you really love Pokemon, there are probably 40 other people who share the same passion. If you love watching history films, there is a class for that. If you love proteins and modeling them using a 3D printer, there is a club for that. There are just so many things you can get involved in! I tell everybody i know that attends a different high school to come to North. I have so many other friends who attend schools like Olathe South, Olathe northwest, Shawnee mission south and I rarely hear anything great about their school, but all my friends at North and I testify how great our school is to everyone. I am just glad to be an Olathe North Eagle.

Alum:I had a wonderful high school experience that gave me the connections, information, and testing I needed throughout my four years there to be prepared for starting an undergraduate business degree at ASU. Their Center for Advanced Professional Studies gave me the opportunity to work with in field professionals, build my resume, and shadow multiple people. They also had a very strong science and English program at this high school that gave me the necessary background to build upon once I reached college. With all of the newest technology available to students at computer labs and the library the sky was the limit for advanced learning!

Parent:The fact that this school ranked on the higher numbers national wide and the first in Kansas is completely true and therefore prove a pleasant experience for my daughter. My daughter is very involved in extracurricular activities and other classes and spend most time in the school. Interesting that I am not even encouraging her, she gets this motivation coming from a wonderful staff. Because English is my second language I can not help her in this stage of her education, at this very important time of getting ready for a college. The school provides students with whole knowledge and opportunities that they will need for future education. The staff is always friendly and helpful!

    Blue Valley Northwest High School

Alum:Very cliquey and separated, despite the "Husky family" mentality being shoved down your throat. It felt like they were succumbing to the downgraded meaning of "high school", from "transition to upper level academics" to "Spirit week, sports and fun times". They did a hell of a job with their academics, but I wish the spotlight was more on that and preparing kids for their future endeavors rather than focusing on maximizing kids' last years of adolescence. That's important, but that shouldn't be the focus of a public learning institution. They do try hard to give a chance to everyone though, and that isn't seen everywhere. Even though I'm a pessimist, I'd give it 4 stars for doing better than a lot of other schools in the nation, even if it's far from what I envision the strongest schools being like.

Senior:You walk into the school and can just sense something is different. Teachers genuinely care about your education, not just getting paid. Administration are some of the most caring and devoted people in the world. School spirit is not only one of the best in Kansas, but the country. Parents are very involved in all school activities and the overall quality of all students education. There is a wide and diverse club standing at the school, one for about anyone imaginable. Sports are not just for those who excel, but for everyone. You can walk into select sports senior year and be totally welcomed. Staff, coaches, and students are always willing to help with a huge smile on their face. The school also has resources like that of any college, offering a writing center for students. Overall, Olathe South cares about its students in every way imaginable. Any senior walking out of Olathe South looking to pursue a college education or Armed services walks out into the world more than prepared.

High School Senior:My overall experience of Olathe Northwest has been fantastic! I love getting to meet new people each year and throughout the year as well and it's fun getting new teachers too. Some of my favorite memories and experiences with my school have came from going to sporting events and seeing all of the school spirit the students and staff have. Our school is unique in the way that we accept everyone and have so many awesome clubs to be a part of that are different and not common in other schools. Our teachers and administrators put in a lot of effort into making our school an awesome environment to be a part of and it truly pays off. Many students dedicate over eight hours a day at school, from participating in clubs, sports, organizations, and many other things. If I had to do high school all over again I definitely would stay at Olathe Northwest because it is such a fun community to be a part of and everyone enjoys being around each other all of the time. We are on Raven Family.

Junior:I love my high school because of the infinite opportunities offered. I have found so many hobbies that I am interested in and enjoy- golf, speaking Spanish, playing the violin, swimming and participating in the Friends of Rachel club. I am also very thankful for the many different classes I can choose to take. Changing the norm that status is important at my school would make a big impact for many students and would boost self confidence in all classes. Creating more mixers and in school socialization between different friend groups could help shape my school into a better community for all students.

    Shawnee Mission Northwest High School

Senior:Shawnee Mission Northwest High was my only high school for all four years. During these four years, there was a lot of fun and diversity seen throughout each year. The assemblies and sports games were always loud and energetic, cheering on our teams. The arts department was welcoming and positive with new creations appearing every single day. Not only were the students well blended and worked extremely well together, but the staff and faculty were as well. High school has been the best four years of my life and I'm honest when I say that I will be sad the day that graduation comes.

    Shawnee Mission East High School

    • Shawnee Mission, KS
    • 302 reviews
Senior:Shawnee Mission East High School is a great school for people looking for the stereotypical high school experience. The school spirit is very important to the students and attending sporting events is crucial in your four years. We don't take rivalries lightly; we like to win. Also, academics are very important to the students at East. Many are enrolled in AP classes and there is even the full International Baccalaureate program for anyone wanting to further challenge themselves. All of these amazing characteristics define Shawnee Mission East, but we do have room for improvement. I would like to see East grow and continue to expand. I want the school to grow in the area of diversity and acceptance. East is in an affluent suburb of Kansas. This does not allow for much diversity, but I believe in the future this will change, and people from all backgrounds can call Shawnee Mission East their home.

    Shawnee Mission South High School

    • Shawnee Mission, KS
    • 240 reviews
Senior:Shawnee Mission South is a great school with outstanding academic opportunities. The honors and AP classes include curriculum and teaching that prepares students for a college setting. The administration at South, however, can be difficult to work with. The principal appears stern and dismissive, and the counselors are lethargic about responding to and completing student requests. Student schedules create problems as well; the school is unable to provide students with the opportunity to enroll in each class they want, and school authorities will occasionally pressure students before taking volunteers to switch into other hours of the same class in order to balance the classes.

High School Senior:This is my first year at this school, and will be my last considering that I am a senior. However, I am happy that I am at this school this year. Although I do not share many memories with my classmates, I have enjoyed the time I have had with them and I was kindly included and accepted from my first day. I like the small class sizes and the tight-knit feel that this school has. Being in a small town, everyone is close and everyone is included. I also enjoy the fact that 7th through 12th grade is in the same building, so I am able to take my 8th grade brother to school with me. My brother and I have grown closer because we attend school events together and have mutual friends. If I could do things over, I would have started going to this school in 7th grade.

    De Soto High School

    • De Soto, KS
    • 229 reviews
Senior:De Soto High School offers a unique combination of a growing 5A school, with the feel of a much smaller "hometown" atmosphere. Centered in De Soto, Kansas, which boasts a population of approximately 6,000 people, the school is large enough to be significant, however still small enough to support a community feel. The school itself entails high academic achievement with support of multiple areas of student interests in clubs and athletics. The faculty and students are generally friendly, pleasant, and motivated. Overall, a wonderful high school to attend.

Alum:Free State high school has great teachers and staff. I went for four years and it was so much fun. The school gives you so many opportunities and advantages. There are tons of clubs you can join to expand your knowledge and social life. Free State High School is really big on school spirit, which makes it all the more fun! There's basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, volleyball, cross country and track. The coaches are very motivating and will even help you with your acedemics. The teachers will ensure you are on the right path and make you incredibly satisfied with some of there teaching techniques. It was such a privilege to be able to get my high school diploma here. I always go visit my old teacher and my old advisor. It's a place that will give you so many great memories and really adapt you socially. I would highly recommend this high school to anyone. The school is very professional and the teachers make learning fun.

    Mill Valley High School

    • Shawnee, KS
    • 243 reviews
Senior:At Mill Valley, the experience was about as warm as a high school experience could be. The teachers were most often accomodating, but pushed you to be your best. The students rarely harmed one another, and certainly not physically! The environment was really productive for learning. Students help one another out, teachers are beyond willing to let you come in before or after class, and that's not even mentioning the State winning extracurriculars. The only problem with the school is the extreme lack of diversity- Mill Valley is almost entirely comprised of rich, white kids.

High School Senior:My overall experience at Maize High School was good. I grew up in Maize so I made many friends through the years and going through many programs. A favorite experience of mine was when for bully prevention week, for Students Against Destructive Decisions, I got together with fellow members and we made a short film to be broadcasted throughout the whole school throughout the week. We made an awesome video, great memories, and were actually able to eventually get a several speakers to come out and talk about anti-bullying! Some other fun memories have been at all of the school orchestra Christmas tours in the community. Every year the whole orchestra goes out and plays Christmas songs for elementary schools, retirement homes, and daycares!

    Salina High School South

    • Salina, KS
    • 228 reviews
Senior:I love going to school at South. The staff and administration are very supportive and helpful. South has many traditions that they have had for a long time. For example, South has Kilt Krew. Kilt Krew is a group of seniors that wear kilts and travel to all of the football games and they cheer on the team. South has many different clubs to peak everyone's different personalities and interests. There are many different classes, including AP classes to help students be more successful. I feel safe in school at all times, but there are some things that make South not so safe. South is under construction right now, therefore, if a student has a conditioning class they have to actually go outside and go into another door to get to that class. This means that there are two doors that are unlocked at all times so anyone can come in at any time. Other than this factor, South is a great high school and I have loved being a Cougar.

    Northeast Magnet High School

    • Bel Aire, KS
    • 159 reviews
Senior:Northeast Magnet is a wonderful school full of vibrant kids who want to learn. Being a strictly academic, magnet based school, students get to take classes that focus on each individuals interest. Out of the three magnets- art, science, and law- I chose the science Magnet. An extra class has helped me tremendously for I have taken introductory engineering courses. These college prep classes provide me with extra knowledge along with the common courses taken anywhere else. My teachers are wonderful; everyday they challenge students to grow in their abilities and talents. Along with my teachers, the counselors work to ensure students credits are secure and involvement in student life is prominent. The only reason I would not give it five stars is because it lacks an athletics program. Many students are involved in sports, but have to play for other schools. I've seen how this effects the unity of my school; Northeast is like a house divided in a way.

Sumner Academy of Arts & Science

    • Kansas City, KS
    • 362 reviews
Senior:Sumner Academy is a challenging school. Your push towards success starts in eight grade unlike all the other high schools in the KCK Public School District. Not only does the school have great academics because of the IB Diploma program and having great teachers overall but the school itself also has a great community. We stand as one embracing diversity and equal rights for all. If we don't like what is going on with US politics at the moment we make our voice heard. I guess you could say our school ground acts is a safe heaven. The only thing I wish would change is the school's funding. We are doing our best with the little resources we receive now but It would be nice to have some money saved in for the kids and family's who attend our school especially if it helps pay for college or general high school lunches, school supplies, or fees.
