    Carnegie Vanguard High School

    • Houston, TX
    • 230 reviews
Senior:Carnegie Vanguard is a unique school. It's a competitive school filled with motivated students, making it extremely challenging at times. The community of this school is great however everyone is like a team, with a "we're all in this together" vibe. Most of the teachers are really amazing people and teachers. The only thing this school lacks is its lack of school spirit. Yes we have a spirit team/cheerleading team but that isn't enough. We never do anything school wide such as homecoming games or have a band or even a football team. All in all it's a one in a million schools that's out of the ordinary.

Niche User:Aside from dealing with my own stresses, my high school experience was quite positive. Of course, I prefer college, but I'm glad I went to such a positive school with great teachers. One of my favorite experiences was my Spanish for Spanish Speakers class. Señor Brazo is an incredible teacher. He can be tough sometimes but he did not just teach us how to speak proper Spanish, he also taught us about being good people. He encouraged me to speak in class more, despite having a sometimes-awkward accent. He is the reason I found one of my passions - Video Production. We had a project every six weeks and we always did videos and I decided I would be in charge of editing, simply because acting was not my forte and I had a good video editing software. To this day I still do video production on a small scale. I am already including it in my career!

My second favorite experience was when Señor Brazo encouraged me to join the SLAMcast. I had attended Miller, which was great, but I felt like there was so much more I could still learn than just one school year's worth. I auditioned for the SLAMcast and, despite being incredibly nervous when I was practicing anchoring (and stumbling over my words), I did a great job with the interview portion of the audition. My teacher, Mr. Kolkman, acted as a student in the robotics club, and I had to interview him. I submitted a portfolio of some past work I've done in video production. I ended up being accepted into the organization. It was a lot of work. I've never put this much work after school on projects simply because we incorporated more than just a roll of film. Mr. Kolkman encouraged me to anchor, despite my horrendous anchoring part of the audition. I was hesitant simply because I'm not one to be on camera often, but I agreed. This helped improve my public speaking skills and I became so much more confident in myself. I would choose SLHS again because of how much it helped me grow up.

Senior:DeBakey High School's rigorous curriculum provides a challenging, yet rewarding academic experience that truly prepares students for college and even goes as far as giving students the real world experience of working in the medical field by allowing them to shadow medical professionals. The teachers and faculty are very approachable and actually try to look out for the students by listening to their problems and helping the best they can. The classrooms are very small, which serve to be better learning environments, since there's more room for interaction between the students and the teachers. Although there are no formal sports, there are intramural and club sports that make up for it, as well as dozens of cultural, academic, and community service based clubs that make up for it. Overall, the atmosphere in DeBakey is unique and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

    Clements High School

Alum:Clements high school is a great school. I loved it because of the opportunities it brought me to join organizations that suited my needs. I was able to make good positive friends and the aura around the school was good. The only issue is that the school was quite competitive so sometimes it was hard to keep up with pressure and workload. Other than that, the school is safe and is great!

Senior:My high school experience was absolutely amazing. It sounds cliche, but all four years meant so much to me. So many memories were created and friendships. Connections were made and eyes were opened. When I say eyes were opened, I am specifically talking about me. It opened my eyes to the world of opera. I study vocal at my school and it is the best. I have learned and have grown a burning passion for opera. This high school had a heavy influence on it, so much that it gave me an opportunity to sing in an opera at the Houston Grand Opera; an experience i will never forget. That would have never happened if my high school did not have the connections it did. I am thankful and grateful for attending this school. I am thankful for the balance of arts and academics it allowed me to learn. I am thankful for HSPVA.

Senior:I was extremely pleased with my experience at Cypress Woods High School. I was placed in a positive learning environment with teachers who genuinely care about my academic progress and want to prepare my for the future. I developed meaningful relationships with majority of my teachers, and almost all of them have impacted me in a way that has shaped my future. The school spirit is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Everyone there is grateful that they get to attend such an exemplary school, and it shows in the excitement of students and faculty at all events. If I could do high school over again, I would not change a thing!

    Glenda Dawson High School

    • Pearland, TX
    • 648 reviews
Senior:This school is wonderful in terms of diversity, culture, school activities, and in terms of involvement. A administration and staff are helpful and contribute to the great experience and seem to care for your future success. Overall, it's a wonderful experience and creates an engaging environment for individuals to find what they're passionate of and also allows academics to mingle with extracurricular to create a balanced but accumulative experience. Although, the lunches and facilities may need some further improvements in terms of available space and quality of food. Also, due to the growing population of the school, academic competitiveness has intensified making it more difficult for students to improve in terms of ranking and GPA wise. However, these drawbacks shouldn't be limiting factors for students wanting a wonderful and acceptive environment to engage in academic studies as well as enjoying activities they love with others who share that same passion.

    Memorial High School

    • 270 reviews
Junior:Academically and socially, Memorial High School prepares you for life. With rigorous course work and a diverse pool of peers, it teaches you to work hard and how to get along with everyone. You encounter many different types of people here, rich and poor and although the school gets a bad reputation for being filled with rich white kids, it also has its' share of low-income minority students too. The teachers here really care about how you're doing and are willing to help if you stuggle.

    Cinco Ranch High School

    • Katy, TX
    • 483 reviews
Alum:Attending Cinco Ranch High School is something I am proud of. The school had great school pride, a great location, and what I feel like were high standards academic-wise. Many other schools in this district were known for one thing or another (academics, a certain sport, a certain social class), but I feel like Cinco Ranch had a healthy balance of all these things. The school had many organizations and encouraged school spirit through pep rallies and theme days. I do feel, however, that the faculty varied too much on what they valued. Some staff were very kind and encouraging, some were strict and harsh. Some were avid rule followers, some made up their own rules. I believe that this difference allowed some students to have very different high school experiences, which is very unfortunate. Overall, I am glad to have been a part of a school that prepared me for college, both academically and socially.

Senior:Great school overall, so many activities to do! Definitely get involved, but also focus on academics because they take it very seriously at the Ranch. Learn to communicate with your teachers or else they can't really help you. No one isn't babied at the school.

Senior:Coming into the school, I didn't know what to expect. But now as a Senior, I can definitely say that my experience here was amazing. The opportunity to receive an Associates Degree and my High School Diploma at the same time is one of my greatest achievements. Though we don't have any sports or UIL teams, we make our own clubs that will make our experience here much greater. One of my favorite parts about going to this school were the events we have going on all the time. It's like every week or two, something is going on and it keeps the fun in our school going! This year, we were recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and because of that, Blue Bell Ice Cream was served to every staff and student in our school! All in all, I really enjoyed my time here at the school and I encourage people to come here because it's a deal you can't get anywhere else in Alief.

    Kerr High School

    • Houston, TX
    • 422 reviews
Junior:Kerr High School is a pretty great school! The atmosphere allows students to have a glimpse of college. Students have the freedom to learn at their own pace. However, one downfall would be the size of the student body. Typically, each class only has about 200 (or less) students. Therefore, there is increased competition, as Kerr is a magnet school, and students could easily fall to the bottom if they slacked for a second. Regardless, this school is home to many tight-knit groups and clubs that will allow students to make memories of a lifetime.

Senior:Clear Horizons has provided me with the opportunity to complete an Associates Degree in General Studies for free. I am a high school senior but will graduate from San Jacinto Community College with this degree two weeks before I graduate from my high school with my high school diploma.

The school has also provided me with the knowledge to do well in the professional world. Our teachers have taught us about soft skills and have instilled in us good working habits to carry with us to our college education.

It has also provided me with the opportunity to participate in a mentorship with the Galveston County Sheriff's Department. I plan to study criminal justice and criminology when I move on to college and without my school, I would not have been able to participate in this mentorship.

Alum:I enjoyed being there from middle school to high school and all of the teachers are very helpful. Senior year in particular was hard because I was taking IB and AP courses but in the end I finished. The facility is always clean and the thing I loved the most about Westchester is that everyone is friendly and they will always try to help you. The foreign language teachers are amazing even though they are often strict it is definitely worth learning a new language and being able to master it throughout the years. Aside from all of that the teachers will always try to help the students, when I was struggling the teacher was always willing to give me extra help and stay after school to help be before a test or quiz.

    Tomball Memorial High School

    • Tomball, TX

Senior:I recently moved to Tomball and the schools here are amazing. Tomball Memorial high school is a great school with teachers who are really hands on and they help so much. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone is so happy to be here which is surprising since its school in general. I thought I would have senioritis by the third week of school but since the teachers are so amazing and there was a different activity each day I found myself having a lot of fun! The sports are great too. They have many athletics departments such as football, tennis, cheerleading, baseball and many more that I can come out and cheer for, which is a great way that I can support my school. Tomball Memorial also has many luxuries for their students such as stress reliving dogs, field trips for seniors and rewards for students who get great grades. This school is honestly one of the best high schools I have ever heard of and I love it here.

    Ridge Point High School

    • Missouri City, TX
    • 324 reviews
Alum:While I was attending Ridge Point High School the student to faculty/staff relationships were very valuable. The students were treated with the same respect expected out of them and as a result the environment was positive and promoted development of professional and respectable skillsets. I would like to see the diversity of the school reflected in its publications like the yearbook. I would like to see the administrators inform the students about great opportunities offered by the FBISD school district like the Gifted and Talented Mentorship Program. Additionally, I feel the rules enforced for campus security have great intentions but are unnecessarily extensive and annoying.

    Stratford High School

    • Houston, TX
    • 318 reviews
High School Junior:I have loved almost all of the time I've spent at Stratford because of the general attitude and atmosphere of the school. Students and teachers alike tend to be friendly and non-judgmental which allows each individual room to grow who they are and begin becoming who they will be. While there is plenty of encouragement and opportunity to be plugged into and successful, it remains your choice to take advantage of it. I've throughly enjoyed being a member and/or leader in various organizations and have felt welcomed and supported in every community I've been a part of. From what I've heard, this is spectacularly uncommon and I'm infinitely grateful for the time I've spent at Stratford America!

High School Junior:I am proud to be an Austin High School student because of how diverse the school is, our high academic ranking, wonderful teachers, and fun classes/clubs/programs offered here. I feel welcomed and safe, as well as enjoying myself because everyday is fun learning alongside my classmates. The Pre-AP and AP courses offers the challenge you would expect from those courses, but majority of the teachers are able to help you get ready for the AP test. Furthermore, I am absolutely grateful for the NJROTC program offered here because of the amazing friends I've made as well as the valuable lessons learned from the instructors. Austin High School is definitely one of the best!

Parent:In the four years my daughter has attended....seen a lot of drama and heard of a handful of bad, mean, bullylike teachers from friends and their kids..luckily we never experienced it. I am very pleased with College Park H.S. And the faculty. Their measures taken for safety and security are also appreciated. I would encourage all students to take advantage of all the clubs and organizations they offer...it make the students feel a sense of belonging and life long friendships are made. The fact that these schools from elementary -high school, motivate our kids for college is remarkable!

Niche User:The school itself is very team spirited with lots of nice people, but much like the typical high school is filled with all types of different cliques. The teachers are friendly, but do not do a good job at preparing for college. It is a very rich town with lots of people who act like they do not know what hard work is, because their parents do everything for them. Despite the negatives I actually had some great memories at this school. A few of my favorite experiences were at the Friday night football games when we would make signs, paint ourselves white and blue, and cheer on our Friendswood Mustangs!

Junior:I enjoy my overall high school experience. I love the diversity of the student population and the numerous possibilities there are to get involved and to find one's niche. However, one thing that I would recommend is for the high school to better prepare incoming students. I came into the high school from an unaccredited school in a different state and had a hard time trying to re-do my credits. If there were a better system for students in my situation and other out-of-state/out-of-country students, I would appreciate it!

Sophomore:I transferred to this year to Clear Falls. This was my first experience in a public school system, and I must say that I was pleasantly suprised. Both admin and teachers were always present to help me. The principals run a tight ship and the students are all well mannered, respectful and courteous. The amount of classes that are offered is truly amazing! If you are ready to soar, the sky is the limit with the resources that this campus offers. I am glad to be a part of this school, and am glad that I made the right choice to transfer to further my educational interests.

Senior:I really enjoyed my experience at Taylor. I was easily able to make a good group of friends there. All of the activities and clubs are really fun. I participated mainly in soccer, art, and National Art Honor Society. I was very comfortable at Taylor considering how big the school is. Also, the teacher's are really great, each year I was more and more interested in the lessons because of how they teach. Everyone is very open and approachable I was never nervous to go talk to a student or a teacher.
