Senior:Honestly? I love St. Croix Prep. Their entire goal is to prepare you for college and I believe they have done exactly that. Yes they load on the homework, have difficult tests, and expect a lot from you, but it's been so helpful in the long run! The faculty is always there if you need help outside of class (whether they teach a class you're in or not) and that's something I value greatly. As a PSEO student I have noticed how much St. Croix Prep has prepared me for college. They really do know what they're doing and all of the hard work that the students do DOES pay off! I'm so thankful I got to spend my highschool years at St. Croix Preparatory Academy and am so thankful towards the staff, as well as my peers, for trudging it out with me. :)

    Math & Science Academy

    • Woodbury, MN
    • 41 reviews
Senior:It's a great small school for the fact that everyone knows everyone - grades are like families, and every teacher not only knows the students' names, but has a relationship with them. Staying for 7 years can make anyone a little stir crazy, so PSEO in 11th and 12th grade is HIGHLY recommended! Overall challenging courses and friendly environment.

    Nova Classical Academy Upper School

    • Saint Paul, MN
    • 44 reviews
Alum:I went to Nova for eleven years and had a bit of a love hate with it while I attended. Looking back now I believe it was the best school I could have gone to. I am now attending a good liberal arts college and feel more than prepared to handle the college work load. Like any school Nova has it's problems. In its case they mostly stem from tensions around extremely limited funding and philosophic differences between the very vocal conservative and liberal families. If you are looking for a rigorous college preparatory school with no tuition and are ready for the challenges that accompany that combination then Nova might be the the right place for you just as it was for me.

    Eagle Ridge Academy

    • Minnetonka, MN
    • 47 reviews
Alum:Attending Eagle Ridge Academy acquires a rigor that not all kids have. Deciding to attend will either challenge you into a stronger student, or frustrate you until you give up and drop out. Thankfully I was the former, but I saw many peers give up. As a result, my graduating class was a small, close knit, extremely well educated group of individuals. I would recommend, but only if you think you're ready.

    Twin Cities Academy High School

    • St. Paul, MN
    • 55 reviews
Senior:TCAHS has a tradition of holding high standards of school expectations. This school focuses on college readiness and the importance of volunteer work. TCAHS's rigorous academics helped me have better understanding on my education. Although TCAHS is a small school it gives the teachers a chance to get to know every student. I appreciate that the teachers care about their students and the overall environment of TCAHS is welcoming. Something that could change about TCAHS is the connection between Admin to students. I feel like the trust is not as strong due to a lack of communication.

Sophomore:Main Street School of Performing Arts has helped me grow and blossom as an artist and as a person. The teachers are so helpful and encouraging and I always feel like I can talk to them. I go to school everyday knowing that there is always more to learn, and more to improve on and I can't wait to get to class. I love how many different types of people go to my school and how the culture of our school preaches the unconditional love of others and acceptance of those different than you. You can always learn from people that are different than you, and you should!

Junior:Harbor City is a very unique and amazing place to go for high school. The class sizes are small, so there is a lot of one on one interactions with the teachers which allows for the student to ask more questions. All of the teachers are available before or after school for the student to get help on their homework or to ask questions.

    Great River School

    • Saint Paul, MN
    • 15 reviews
Alum:Great River was a very unique high school experience for me. The school culture and teachers were the two features that I believe differed the most from a traditional high school. With a focus on hands-on learning and experiencing the world through an analytical yet understanding lens, Great River molds students into appreciative and thoughtful world citizens. Most high school students probably never had a chance to go camping and canoeing with their entire grade and teachers, experience animal husbandry in an urban setting, or have the feeling of maturity and comfort that comes with addressing your teachers by their first names. The teachers at Great River were all obviously passionate about shaping the next generation. Each teacher had their own way of understanding youth and adolescence, which really showed in their teaching methods. For a small public school, Great River has done the most a school can do with limited resources. I'm proud to be a Great River alumnus.

Parent:St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists is a unique school in that it trains high school students in the performing arts as well as gives them a good overall high school education. Students come from all over the Twin Cities and surrounding areas- many of them by city bus. There is great diversity ethnically and economically. It give students a real-life cross section of the population as well as an excellent education in their fields of artistic expression. The school has continued to improve academically over the years to the point that it is quite competitive with other traditional high schools. Because of the nature of the school and it's urban setting, there are no sports teams or extra-curricular activities other than student council and the yearbook staff. Many of the students pursue their art forms with private lessons or classes after school, so would not be able to stay for after-school activities. Also, due to the dual nature of the education, the school day is an hour longer than most traditional high schools. They do have several showcase performances for family throughout the year to show what they have been working on, so we do get the opportunity to see their work, but by and large, there are not many opportunities for parents to become involved in the school. However, the staff is always working on ways to keep lines of communication open with parents- especially as they approach the time to start applying for colleges.

The faculty, in my experience, has been very easy to approach. The format for teacher conferences is very conducive to frank conversations and I have not been disappointed with any of the faculty.

    Spectrum High School

    • Elk River, MN
    • 55 reviews
Senior:Spectrum High School is a very nice school with great teachers. However, it seems as though Spectrum has lost its connection with community service. Community service used to be a big part of the core of Spectrum, but since the past few years; the community service aspect has significantly dwindled as students are not being able to truly experience the wonderful feeling when one volunteers his or her time out of his or her own will, not because it is required. Students that attend Spectrum now sadly may never actually experience the wonderful feeling of helping others out of their own will because it is no longer implimented in a way that allows students to grow and develop from real-world settings.

North Lakes Academy - Upper School

    • Forest Lake, MN
    • 45 reviews
Junior:North Lakes Academy is smaller in size compared to public schools, since it is a public charter school. I like the smaller class sizes, you get to actually connect more with your teachers and the subjects you are learning. The environment is very excepting and pushes you to do your best. I feel like the lunches could be better, they aren't the greatest and are quite expensive for the school has to cater in the lunches everyday. A down fall to going to a small school is everyone knows each other, this may seem like a great thing but once a rumor gets started everyone hears about it. Nonetheless North Lakes is a great school and I very much enjoy it.

    SAGE Academy Charter School

    • Brooklyn Park, MN
    • 2 reviews
Senior:This is a very good small Charter school of 90 kids total in grades 9-12. The administrators are the most amazing people along with the staff(for the most part). Josh, Diane, Marilyn, and Kim are the upper part of the staff and they couldn't be any better at what they do. Having the opportunity to do PSEO when your graduating class is 17 kids is a very nice thing to be able to do, unlike 200+ kids at a regular high school. It is right off of 85th Ave N in Brooklyn Park, which is easily accessible going off of 610 and Noble Parkway. It is definitely worth taking a tour!!

    MTS Minnesota Connections Academy

    • Saint Paul, MN

Senior:In my experience as a student at connections academy, I was very impressed with the online teachers and counselors level of care and commitment. My parents were very impressed by the school's communication system which allowed them to keep track of my progress. We also appreciated the amount of field trips and opportunities to interact with the different students. I also greatly appreciated the flexibility of the online courses. My teachers were very helpful when I would fall a little behind on my assignments by helping me understand the material better with one on one live lesson sessions. The teachers and counselors were always very prompt with responding to emails. Sometimes they would respond within the hour. One of the only things I would change would be to add teacher evaluations at the end of the year. I feel this would help the students ensure they are getting the best education possible.

    PACT Charter Secondary School

    • Ramsey, MN
    • 63 reviews
Junior:PACT is school that teaches student to hold good moral values while holding strict education standard. In recent years the standards have begun to drop due to committees not will to apply classes that would teach student about current day issues. These committees are against allowing teachers to teach their own way and have shown little trust in the teachers. The committees like to stay away from content labeled as controversial because of the culture that a few families come from. PACT put an emphasis on parent involvement in a student education. The is a great sense of community in the school. There are little elective option and most of the time upper class men opt to take PSEO or STEP classes instead of taking classes on campus of the school.

Recent Alumnus:This school is unique because its a K-12 school so you deal with a variety of people of different age groups throughout the day. Favorite experiences from this school are the clubs and sports teams I've been on while there and also the friends I made. I would chose this school again because it made into the mature adult I am today and because of the friends I have.

    New Century Academy

    • Hutchinson, MN
    • 10 reviews
Senior:Students are very open to be themselves in every aspect. I would love to see more sports they are something I enjoy a lot. The doors are unlocked all day, so anyone could just walk into the school, a lot of students feel this is not safe. The building is quite new, so it is a nice facility. This school prepares students to go to the local community college, not anywhere else really. As with every school, this school has it's ups and downs.
