Ralston Valley Senior High School Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 496 reviews
I loved the teachers I have at RV. I will be honest, the experience as a student taking AP/honors courses is entirely different than that if those in regular courses though. My AP teachers are so kind and really want the best for their students. If I was basing my review on just the AP teachers this would be a 5 star school. However, the student culture is terrible. Forget any support or funding if you participate in the arts and get used to preforming for an empty auditorium and a quarter of a page in the yearbook. It is so discouraging to put just as much work into concerts as many sports teams and get less than a fraction of their support. Furthermore, the “popular” clique at school continuously makes fun of “nerdy” kids and ostracizes them for their dedication and passion to schoolwork. Classic high school setting. Don’t go to this school if you are interested in attending an Ivy or other top level college, there is a lack of challenging courses (especially in science).
During my freshman year of high school, I believed that it would be difficult to connect to other students, as well as my teachers; I thought that it would be impossible to gain the education I deserved while attending high school on a computer due to Covid 19. Though I was wrong when I attended my first online class at Ralston Valley. Ralston Valley was able to give me excellent resources to reach out for help from my teachers as well as providing a safe online environment for me to connect with my peers. I was wrong to believe that I would not grow as a student, but as a person. Ralston Valley gave me the space to embrace the educational and athlete sides of myself; I found out who I was by the amazing opportunites Ralston Valley provided for me such as clubs to join and engaging classes to participate in-I never once had the idea to skip a class because I simply though it would be boring.
There are opportunities for everyone at RV. The culture is accepting and encouraging of all students. There is a large support for students from the admins and counslers. Sports at RV are amazing! The football team is a contender in the playoffs every year, solid basketball team and soccer, great track/cross country team, you name it. Performing arts is a tight knit group always allowing students to come in and out as their schedule permits. However, the school isn’t perfect, the food is subpar; all upperclassman drive off campus to get food during lunch and if underclassman are lucky they do as well. Depending on the teacher you get, you may have a very difficult time working with them or even reaching them. The school is crowded but that is to be expected with such a large population and the teachers do a good job of making time for every student. I would definitely recommend Ralston Valley if you have the opportunity to go.
