R. Roger Rowe Middle School Reviews

My children have been here for 5 yrs & 1 is graduating this yr. I have seen both good & bad, but overall, I will say relatively good in compared to other middle schools. Admin & school board communication have been A+++. There are monthly coffee talk and you can see the schedule on the school event calendar. I noticed many parents’ suggestions were implemented by admin right after the coffee, very impressive! The few bullying that I heard of were investigated and actions were taken. Now, with recruiting of parent volunteers for lunch/recess time, it should only get even better! Never heard of LBGQT+ discrimination. I will say 80+% teachers are A+++, super supportive & care students learning. There are 1-2 that just asked students do worksheets but a minority & I don’t think there’s much can be done with the teacher union policy. I wish though physics class, UN/academic competition lunch club, teacher-led robotics, speech & debate can be brought back. But we do have 2 elective classes
Communication to parent community is nonexistent. There is only a very small amount of opportunities for parent involvement. Bullying is rampant, the administration excuses it away. Intolerance towards LGBTQ+ is accepted. The administration is weak, is pushed around by the parents to get what they want. School decisions are based solely on what a group of vocal parents want, not what is in the best interest of the students’ education or health/safety. If you’ve had your kids in another school district, you will quickly discover how watered down, basic the curriculum is. If you’re child is an average student, they will be a high performer at this school. If your child is already a high performer at another school, enroll elsewhere. They will learn nothing new, will not be challenged. Half the teachers care. The other half doesn’t. Maybe it’s because the administration doesn’t ever have their backs… to busy pleasing parents.
This school is a dream with excellent teachers and administrators who truly care about each and every student. The Principal knows each student
by name and takes time to get to know a lot about each student. My child was VERY well prepared for high school and felt that much of the material covered his freshman and sophomore years was repetitive of what he learned in 7th and 8th grade at R. Roger Rowe.
