My experience at Putnam has been great and beneficial to my career because it opens many doors to job opportunities outside of school or as a co-op position. Being a vocational school, Putnam helped me think about what I want to do in the future and this is just as important as academic studies. The best part of Putnam has to be the connections students have with each other and their staff, feeling as if each shop is a unique family. One negative experience would be the overwhelming stress of handling both shop and academic classes at once. I would like to see changes relating to class governments and their abilities to benefit the grade.
My experience at Putnam has been a rocky one from the start, especially in my shop. I was a Culinary student for my full four years of going there, and I had a few interpersonal issues with the instructors (that I would not like to talk in detail about). Other than that, I had a great time with the teachers and students, and they all left me be, as I am not one to get involved with drama. Since Putnam is a vocational school, however, shops are the main focus of the administration and faculty, so having those soured experiences with my instructors brings my high school experience down a few notches.
Overall it is a great experience, you make new friends there as most of the people around are humble. The teachers are amazing at there job despite having have the time of a normal school. They are very understanding of others situations and they make sure to be tailored to each class. The classes themselves are always a good size as well. You will almost always walk out of any class learning something that you didn't know beforehand. It was a great experience.
