As a future high school graduate of 2024, I never had my freshman year of high school in person. Even with online learning ,due to Covid19 protocols it wasn't the first year of high school I expected. My schools efforts to make things feel normal were good but even with that I saw was able to best connect with staff and peers in person. I'm proud to be a PMSA python even with not the best case scenarios. For example as of last school year my teachers were on strike , staff wasn't being paid. Along with that I saw issues being dismissed by administration. This year my biggest issue was with school administration taking advantage of their authority. I only hope to bring better rules and a safer environment for incoming students. My stay so far has been great and i hope we can make this year another great school yea. PYTHONS!
My experience at Proviso Math & Science Academy has been a major wake-up call. I attended mostly black institutions throughout elementary and middle school, where standards were relatively low. Even though I have a decent track record, my achievements and intelligence have elevated me beyond others my age and set me apart from them. When I joined PMSA, where everyone is put on a pedestal, my competition intensified, and I realized that I am no better than the person next to me. Because of this, I felt even more pressure to raise the bar for myself, to stop engaging in any mediocre behaviors, and to aim for excellence. I am convinced that this way of thinking will follow me throughout my post-secondary education so that I may keep improving myself for both my own benefit and the benefit of my community.
I would rate my overall experience at Proviso Math and Science Academy a 6/10. I would say that I know I have missed out on fully experiencing this school because of my freshman year being online and how that affected the start of my high school life negatively. I think that the number of classes they offer at this school is actually pretty good and there's a lot of chances for people to excel in the things they're good at. Music and arts are actually taken pretty seriously at this school, and I feel like that makes it easier for people to express themselves however they want. I think that giving all the students a chance to try AP classes and also not having to pay for the AP tests is a really great thing they have at this school I personally took 5 AP classes during my time here and I found them to be a good chance to get college credits. I would like to see the amount of school events change; I think it would be better to have more school assembly's that students can participate in.
