The reputation is notoriously terrible, but in the end the school isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. However, I wont sugar coat the fact that the school still has many problems (which they have slowly been making strides to fix). Really, the experience there is what you make of it. If you find the right people and take the right classes, your experience will be alright. I came from a catholic school in my junior year, so as you could imagine I felt really out of place. But, contrary to what people told me, I was not 'torn apart' upon entry. In fact, I was welcomed by several groups who actually helped me in my time of need. Also, the social workers and counselors make great strides to make sure that kids graduate and have support that is sometimes desperately needed. So while there are problems that stick out, I had an overall nice time at East.

Many people consider Proviso East High School to be a school with a bad reputation but I believe that it is what you make out of it. I could have been one of the 'troubled" kids, always ditching, getting bad grades, and always being in the deans office. However, I decided to be the good kid with good grades and perfect attendance. I am currently a senior and I have learned so much, not just academically but I have learned what to expect from the real world. I have made real connections with the teachers and I feel ready for college. What I would complain about, is the obvious favoritism that goes on between the security/deans and the students. Many students get away with things and they end up getting rewarded with pizza parties and gift cards for "showing pirate proof." In other words, they were really bad last week but they did something kind this week so they deserve a reward. All of the good kids with amazing grades and accomplishments go unnoticed.
Proviso East High School, some may hear the name and think cruel things. However this has been my home for the past and counting four years. It has showed my diversity, love and given me perserverance. There is an amazing selection of extra curriculars and an abundance of helpful and understanding teachers. The alumni are very supporting of each other. It is located in the small suburb of Maywood. It has taught me that it does not matter where you come from or what school you go to, because if you are destined for greatness, the end result will be the same, no matter where you go. I have built an immense range of relationships with friends and teachers who i will cherish forever. Proviso east is where we don't give up, and bleed blue. Pirate pride.
