Overall, I had a good experience at prior lake highschool. My teachers established average connections with me and I was involved in many clubs and activities throughout school. My guidance counselour was always especially helpful and helped me to create schedules that helped me to excel. The biggest downfall of my school was the college readiness portion. I felt as though it was an environment that didn’t allow me to make my own decisions as often as I would like. Overall, every year they asked students what they wanted to see differently and most times we would see that change through more construction, our laker time which built in extra time to d homework and get help, and better food choices. I enjoyed my time as a student here!

Prior Lake High School has a stellar academic program with great teachers. However, the school is so big that it's hard to have a relationship with the general teachers. On the other hand, AP courses are great, and the teachers establish a great relationship with their students and actively help them become successful, not only in their class but in life. Furthermore, because there are so many students, the culture isn't super strong. There are definite distinctions between groups (e.g. athletics, music, theater), but many people fit into multiple categories; there just isn't a whole lot of unity. Diversity is also an issue. The school is 80% white, and there is still some stereotyping and issues surrounding race.
Overall, Prior Lake High School has characteristics that allows it to categorize as an elite suburban high school. As I digress, Prior Lake’s teachers are outstanding. The English department, in my opinion, is the best and most well structured. Aside from schoolwork, the culture at Prior Lake High School is divisive as well as cliquey. Typical of many other high schools, the general high school culture promotes drinking, juuling, and partying as superior to achieving good grades or acting straight edge. Many students can’t even go to the bathrooms without scenting the potent aroma of a cherry juul being directed towards them. On a more positive connotation, a majority of the students are helpful, lively, and make this environment positive. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend parents to send their students to PLHS due to the positive culture, outstanding and focused staff, as well as a versatile area of growth through clubs, activities, and student groups.
