This school is very clean, rigorous, and fun, and has good resources for its students. My sophomore year was a little difficult because I had some mental health issues towards the end of the year and some teachers weren't very understanding of that, but I love the variety of clubs and activities to get involved in, and the attempt at helping students expand their interests through dual enrollment and CTE courses. I wish there were more dual enrollment courses offered! I've had some great teachers and some teachers that forced students to learn material by themselves (they were pretty inexperienced - which is expected with a newer school). I love the history department, the open air walkways and the variety of clubs here. Some cons are that the locker rooms smell disgusting, the cafeteria food is bad, and that there isn't much school spirit. Overall, I've had a decent experience here and hope that it improves my junior year!
Portola High School is very clean and new, most students are very hardworking, and many programs offer amazing opportunities. Since our school is very new, it's fun to build the program, which allows us to have more chances to try out. As a performing arts student, I am so grateful that I have so many amazing opportunities from choir, dance, and musical theater. Many teachers are very welcoming and nice, and I love our counselors! This school is quite competitive, but that also encourages many students to put themselves out of their comfort zone to try out and explore for more things.
I am very much enjoying my high school experience in Portola High School so far as they offer a variety of class choices and programs that you can join, as well as general fun activities such as football games. The staff is all great and truly strive to make the best learning environment possible and help the students out as much as they can. The amount of diversity in this school, in my opinion, is also amazing as you can meet people from various different ethnicities and backgrounds. Overall, I really enjoy everything that this school has to offer, yet the only thing I would change is the amount of dependency. Although this is a great school, I feel that the way in which lessons are taught and given are so that a student feels dependant as all of the resources are given to the student without them being able to do most of the research themselves to give them that independancy towards college readiness. Thank you Portola! Go Bulldogs!
