PJA is an inclusive Jewish community school providing an academically rich environment that supports each student’s social, emotional and spiritual growth. PJA’s unique curriculum combines interdisciplinary learning, community service, and foreign language acquisition – all with a values-based approach. Students have many opportunities to build relationships and collaborate throughout the school community and are encouraged to think critically, independently, and creatively.
Students benefit from the daily use of the campus facilities, which include the MJCC athletic facilities, the outdoor classrooms, gardens and playgrounds. PJA provides programs in Early Childhood (infants-preschool), Kindergarten through 8th grades, and an after-school enrichment program. PJA students of all ages experience small student-teacher ratios, committed and skilled teachers, and a community that is welcoming and open to all. At PJA, students are empowered to think for themselves and work for the world.
PJA Students work for the world
Every eighth grader participates in PJA’s culminating experience, the Capstone Project. This is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary project which requires students to design, implement and facilitate a meaningful service project. After completing the project, students choose a related topic, conduct research and undertake the writing of a formal research paper and Drash presented to the community.

Portland Jewish Academy Reviews
PJA, recognizes children as unique and capable individuals. Strengths and curiosities are cultivated through multi-dimensional learning and connected to real-world experiences. Wonder abounds. Teachers are passionate about seeing the best in every child, supporting them in ways that challenge them to dig deeper and constantly reach further than they might have imagined possible.
The focus on values weaves higher meaning into every area of the curriculum. Students truly learn to live the school’s motto: “Think for yourself, work for the world.”
This magic radiates beyond the classroom, as well. Families are engaged and deeply connected to the school and one another, creating an incomparable sense of community and belonging, one that lasts far beyond graduation. It is truly a home-away-from-home.
