Porter-Gaud School Reviews
Rating 4.24 out of 5 66 reviews
There is a genuine care for the wellbeing of students at our school, and it contributes to a great environment in which student-faculty relations are extremely positive. The beautiful campus creates a great vibe for students and when the weather is kind, the general mood of the campus feels enlightened. Every teacher tries their hardest to make sure that each student is fully able to reach competency in any subject. While there are so many positives, the workload can sometimes be inconsistent, and some weeks are incredibly stressful and difficult, yet others can be a walk in the park. Another slightly inconsistent facet of a Porter-Gaud education is the class selections; often times incredibly gifted students are placed in on-level classes with students that do not share similar academic ambitions, while others who are less deserving can be placed in Honors or AP classes.
A Porter-Gaud education has provided me with a glimpse of what to expect in college. The courses are interesting and they prepared me for the next step in my education journey. The teachers were both helpful and took great interest in my future and provided assistance when necessary. Further, the interaction among students and faculty was an educational experience in and of itself. Besides the learning, I have met with what I consider to be lifelong friends!
If you want to pay premium tuition for your child to attend a "superior" academic school, but for them to be unable to participate in team sports of their choosing (over scholarship athlete students or moving a few kids "up" and cutting eligible age kids) then by all means write that $29k check. I thought my kids would get a well rounded high school experience; Be able to join/play team sports of their choosing. It is a private school after all. I get that PG wants sports titles to hang in their halls and to promote on social media, but when did that take priority over the paying family's kid who's just as eager to play a sport, but doesn't get the opportunity. The board is unconcerned with the overall academic experience. They do care about winning titles and public perception. I'd rather have any kid who wants to play a sport, be it basketball, soccer or track, be able to do just that…and if the season is a bust, at least there was an opportunity for a lesson in character building.
