From my experience, Port Saint Lucie High School has been a wonderful school to attend. With little exception, the teacher's are hands down some of the most dedicated and passionate teacher's I have ever had the pleasure to be taught by. They truly care about the students and foster an open and accepting environment. The school fosters an environmemt for creatives, with the drama/music departments being some of the most supported programs. My one complaint is the administration, more specifically in terms of trying to get information. There have been multiple times where administration has given mixed information or was just downright unhelpful. It might be a lack of information being passed between the district and the schools but not being able to get accurate information regarding topics such as scheduling, grading, even resources for college applications has greatly hindered me and made me rely on outside sources which can be just as inaccurate.
This is a very confusing high school. However, I would like to say that COVID-19 played a major role in its downfall for me. My freshman and sophomore year were like a movie. We had many assembles where each class came together to have fun. The teachers loved teaching and there were many opportunities to participate. Junior year I stayed online but I was still apart of sports. My senior year we had maybe three or four assembles and it was clear that the teachers did not want to be there. The students stopped wanting to be there and more fights/drama broke out. However if you chose the right friends, you weren't apart of it. We have a great drama department and a few good sport teams. We also offer a dual enrollment with Indian River State College which allowed me to graduate with my associates degree before I got my high school diploma. Overall, PSL is a good school.
The school has good clubs that help prepare students for whatever they want to pursue. It isn’t the best or worst environment to be in, it is average. It provides students with opportunities to plan for their future in education, like dual enrollment and NHS. It’s staff is nice and they try their best to help students reach their full potential.During my four years at Port st Lucie High School I have always been overwhelmed by the amazing culture. Both the student and the staff where so supportive with everything that everyone did and wanted to do. The entire school wanted nothing but to become overall better and to do so together. It felt like we were a big team. I think people support to the sports teams such as basketball and football, but I do sometimes feel like the education could use some work. Not many pep rallies and special events that used to go on in ninth and tenth grade for me.
