Growing up, I attended local low income schools. I found it very difficult to learn in a classroom filled with loud students and uninspired teachers. I was able to attend Port Of Los Angles High School after my number was drawn from their freshman lottery. I entered high school with no acknowledgement of college whatsoever but, quickly understood everything I needed to know. I love the support system here which I never had in any of my previous schools. The counselors are super friendly and encourage every student to blossom. Although, many students complain that the school is strict I personally, feel so safe to be a student here. Everyone in the admission really want every student to strive and to have a bright future, and I really mean that. There's nothing I would really change about this school but for a bigger campus for more students to attend and fall in love with.
Port of Los Angeles High is a very unique school because it offers students small class sizes. The average class has no more Than 25 students. This allows the teacher and the child to have a stronger relationship. This also allows the student to receive more attention from the teacher. I like how my school prepares me for college. My school has three academic counselors, 2 life counselors, and two mental health counselors. I admire the amount of concern and care the administration and teachers have for each student. I trust all of my teachers at my school and I respect them. I wouldn't be who I am right now if it weren't for the wonderful staff at the school. They try to give the best to the students and will stop at nothing until they see us at our full potential.
