Port Isabel High School is a diverse district that offers a lot of opportunities and attention individually. The school provides many rigourous courses in association with Texas Southmost College and UT Austin, as well as certifications in culinary, welding and woodshop. In the past few years, our school has implemented new internship in fields that are guranteed to never be low in-demand, such as police officers, and tourism management. Our student organizations are not limited and we´re often free of starting our own. Councelors and teachers are extremely supportive and always show genuine drive to make us the better version of ourselves. The student community is small and calm, due to the campus being relatively small, we know everyone and support our community equally. It would be much appreciated if they implemeted more classes which dealt with medical fields as well as internships.
I liked that the school was fairly small. Most of the classmates were pretty tight-knit. The majority of the teachers were decent. Although, there were a few bad apples in the bunch. We did have the usual extracurricular activities like NHS, athletics, and marching band for example. However, I did feel like we needed a bit more clubs and extracurricular activities for the student body. More activities that will make everyone feel included. I also felt like the opportunity for all students to get local scholarships was unfortunately not there. The majority of the local scholarships went to students who were either related to or knew someone that was associated with those local scholarships.
