In general, Port Huron Northern High School offers a decent public education experience. There is a mix of great, good, and underachieving teachers. There is definitely a variety of extracurriculars available to students through clubs and sports. However, there should be a better outreach program to get more students involved in these activities. The school recently underwent renovations to update the building, and the new air conditioning is a nice benefit. However, glass walls in the science hallways is a massive distraction to students trying to learn. Most of the English teachers are good, but the lack of science teachers that can really translate the detailed information of the subject to the students is really lacking. The majority of students will say that they really didn't learn, or remember, anything from biology, physics, or chemistry teachers. There is a fair number of AP classes available to students. The only downside is that some classes aren't offered yearly.

Through my four years at Port Huron Northern, I have come to notice details. What makes us stand out from the rest? The answers all lay deep within the woodwork of our school and if you're lucky enough to pick them out as I have, you come to realize that it is a very interesting place, filled with a variety of personalities and social dynamics that make it a fun place to be. As far as the actual physical environment of the school goes, recent renovations have drastically improved learning environments from the previou situation and allowed students to better utilize classroom resources. The faculty and administration has always been an outstanding help in the communal goal of education. Counselors and Administration are always willing to help with any set of circumstances on a personal level with students and parents. Having solid communication between the teachers and the taught is crucial for maintaining a students healthy relationship with their own education.
The band program was my whole 4 years at Port Huron Northern, it opened up so many unique opportunities that I would of never been able to experience. The school itself is not too big and not too small, it is a great size so new students do not have to worry or get lost. The teachers are all wonderful and will offer to help their students in any way possible, many teachers also try to connect to their students personally which is always enjoyable. There are so many different classes to chose from and Port Huron Northern is getting upgraded with lots of new systems so even more new classes are being offered that are geared more towards college classes and student's future studies.
