I graduated Pittsford Sutherland in 2018. Going to Sutherland gave me the great opportunity of also doing the Boces Biomedical Technology Laboratory program my junior and senior year. My career choice is to be a veterinary technician and through this program I was able to do internships and two animal hospitals. If it wasn’t for my guidance counselor I would have never found out about the boces program and I would have never made such amazing friends. Pittsford Sutherland is such a great school. The classes and teachers are amazing and they want you to learn, they want you to succeed in life.
Overall, Pittsford Sutherland provides a good and standard education that prepares students for the rigor of college coursework. There is a wide range of athletics along with academic clubs, which allows students to pursue a variety of interests outside the classroom setting. However, the school drastically lacks diversity amongst its student population as well as in its curriculum. Because of this, students of color feel as though they are isolated/ outliers and that their history is not being taught in the classroom. As a result, students leave Pittsford Sutherland without a well rounded/ diverse education and fail to understand racism as well as other cultures in general.
I have been attending Pittsford Sutherland for 3 years. My overall experience has been well. I can proudly say that I have grown not only as a student but in life. Personally, I have been exposed to new topics an ideas that I never thought I would have interest in. The teachers and administration are very supportive and love to provide aid where it’s needed for their students. They also push their students to their true potential. I enjoy promoting racial equality and Diversity in the school. Most of the student body is open to accepting something new and is dedicated to make a change in their school.
