This school offers a challenging IB curriculum, competitive sports and clubs, a diverse student body, and amazing opportunities to make connections and gain experiences you won't find anywhere else. Other than preparing its students for college and the world beyond a secondary education, the Barack Obama Academy prides itself on motivating its students explore different kinds of passions and potential career fields with a wide variety of activities, clubs, and events. I have met so many wonderful people, both students and staff, that have helped guide me to where and who I am now. I plan to keep these connections and use the knowledge I've gained throughout my time at this school with whatever life throws my way. As our main school motto states, "Nothing in life is so complicated that it cannot be achieved by discipline and hard work."

I wish that the IB program was fully utilized by the administration. Additionally I think there is a clear disparity in the funding received by our school and other schools in the district. The small attendance rate makes for a close knit environment. However, there is an enforced divide prior to beginning the IB program through the Honors and General curriculums. While I don't think my school is as supported as it should be by our city's administration, this causes our teachers to step up to the challenge and create lasting relationships with their students. Never have I been in an environment where I have felt more supported than at Obama. Go Eagles!
It was nice while it lasted, wish it had better food, plus , are they gonna give back our money cause we didn’t have no graduation or prom.
Now in my senior year of highschool, I have continued with V.C.G. and am awaiting to interact with a new group of children, as well involving older students in the National Honor Society. V.C.G. is part of my plan to make an even more conscious effort in bringing awareness to nutriment gatekeeping and health benefits and to continue addressing systemic inequalities in vulnerable communities. I am grateful to have played a role in bringing food injustice to the forefront, but I know my work is far from finished. I look forward to traveling into my new school community and working to make it as beautiful as I know it can be, for me, my peers, and future generations.
