Pierre Van Cortlandt School Reviews
Rating 2 out of 5 2 reviews
Pierre Van Cortlandt is a lovely school full of welcoming teachers who all love to push their students. There is some trouble with accepting LGBTQ+ students among their peers and the occasional teacher, so several students struggle with that. The school sometimes struggles with encouraging and supplementing students who are ready to take on greater challenges, but does a fairly good job teaching students the required curriculum.
PVC teachers are lazy and unkind, and unless your child is mature beyond their years, they will be treated like a nuisance. If your child is an above average student they will not be pushed, a theme you will hear about starting in kindergarten, and if your child is falling behind you will have no idea until it’s far too late as there is zero communication. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is because a small district like Croton lacks the resources widely available to larger schools. There is no homework and much of the day is spent on the computer learning from screens. Post pandemic, these teachers are dialing it in and coasting on their outsized Westchester salaries and tenures. Therefore, not only can I not recommend PVC, but I implore parents considering this district to look elsewhere.
