Academically, I felt very prepared for college after my time at PND. There are a wide variety of AP and Dual Credit classes offered, along with a wide variety of extracurricular activities. However, the competitive culture at this school is extremely intense and is something I certainly haven't missed in college. I personally felt there was too much pressure on students to constantly improve their grades, inflicted by both peers and teachers. Again, this school and the competitiveness did send me to college incredibly prepared, but caused a lot of unnecessary stress while I was in high school.
I am currently a senior at Peoria Notre Dame and my experience did not start off very well. When I first entered the school for a late orientation, my counselor had lost my placement score so I got to place myself in what classes I wanted to. That same counselor messed up my schedule twice for senior year. While PND claims to care for its students they do nothing to help their mental health or address any situation ever, it always gets swept under the rug. While that is negative there were also good experiences, such as clubs and raising money, and the laptops we get to have. Everyone goes to sports games and the culture is usually good, but on an actual school day you often overhear someone saying "I hate it here." The school has some good qualities but also some negative qualities
The school principal is a Sister. Although it is a Catholic school, I feel that religion and administration need to be kept separate. There is a variety of clubs, however, PND does not have clubs that are nationally recognized such as DECA or FBLA. Furthermore, PND provides little to no help with college applications. The counselors barely know the students. They do not assist you with finding activities that will look good on your college applications. If you were to reach out to them directly, they would probably help you, but they don't send out resources to the senior class. However, the majority of teachers at PND truly care about their students. They are passionate about what they teach which reflects in their material. The teachers make the pros outweigh the cons at PND.
