My oldest son currently goes to Penndale and I am dreading sending my youngest in a few years. The building's nickname is "Pennjail". There is no air conditioning. There are run down facilities and barbed wire fencing.
Athletics are decent but terrible communication (won't post schedules). The academics are rough. They operate with a 90%-10% in many classes and the teachers do not communicate the grades. They do not hold conferences.
Attending sporting events is awful as the students are allowed free run of the events. Special education is abysmal. My son was denied to even be tested for an IEP. I am a teacher so I knew how to advocate but the casual parents will not be as lucky.
It is very clear in the district that the focus is the high school and the middle grades get overlooked.

There were great after school clubs that gave everyone something they could be a part of but their lack of hallway accountability was frustrating when there were plenty of security guards that should have been able to monitor better.
Penndale was the greatest school I had the pleasure of going to. While there were a few teachers I had the displeasure of meeting, most of them were quite extraordinary. For someone who moves a lot, I've never been to a better school. Mostly, everyone was kind and I loved almost everyone I met. The school was huge and filled with knacks and twists and turns about as cool as Hogwarts. I miss it greatly. I now am going to a middle school in Virginia, which is by far the worst school I've ever been to. Anyone who complains about Penndale, is likely, incompetent - for they haven't seen the abundant crappy schools in America with their own eyes.
