Pembroke Academy is a love-hate relationship. Some teachers make the school better than others, but all in all, they all care about your education. The school does a lot of fun things, such as winter carnival, an amazing room, out of country trips every year or so, senior trip, etc. But Pembroke Academy is a great school and I've had an amazing time here and I always know that I can go to someone if I need to talk about something personal, need help with my work, extracurricular activities, etc.
The academic offerings at Pembroke Academy was substantially satisfying compared to other small public schools in the area. I enjoyed almost all of my teachers and classes while attending Pembroke Academy as they thoroughly enjoyed the work they were doing and assisted the students with anything they needed which included personal matters. I believe the structure of the school in terms of layout and general wear of the facilities offered could be improved but I understand that it's lack of budget prevents it from making repairs and modern updates in relation to other schools. The Chromebook initiative in particular, which offered free Chromebooks to all incoming freshmen at Pembroke Academy, pleasantly surprised me as a way of lowering barriers within education between varying social economic classes and I strongly support their decison even though upperclassmen did not receive these benefits. I also believe the administration sufficiently prepares students for post graduation.
Pembroke Academy is a public school in Pembroke, New Hampshire; a small school with a small student body of about 800. The school has an easy to maneuver layout, with everyone socially being close because of the small number of students. Kids from 4 surrounding towns attend this school, and the distance between them is quite small. It lends nicely to a small town high-school scene. The curriculum is nothing impressive. The school offers a total of 5 AP courses at a time, not being very centered around higher education. The food quality is terrible as well, but what can you expect from a public school. The school’s board members led the school into over $1.4 million of debt, while still no one knows where that money went. I don’t like the feeling of power the administration has over the school system, especially during a time like COVID-19.
