I was a student at Patterson Middle/ High School since sixth grade. Going to a middle/ high school made it an easy to transition from middle school to high school. While I went there, they offered a variety of classes that I had enjoyed (with the budget cuts some classes that were offered were cut). Most teachers at the school are genuine and thorough with their teaching and they make sure you really understand what's being taught. There are also a variety of clubs around the school that any and everyone is welcomed to joined!

Patterson Mill High School seems like the best school available in the Abingdon area, though I know several families who chose private school over Patterson Mill and Edgewood. The layout of the school has forced the halls to become VERY crowded- where you are taking baby steps to get into and out of the building. Some faculty are incompetent. But other than that, I made a life-long best friend and learned a lot- academically and about life and people. In my personal experience, I did not witness or endure any bullying and my counselor was very sweet and helpful- even if it was just to get a break from being overwhelmed.
I was part of one of the first graduating classes at Patterson Mill High School. I found that the best part about attending Patterson Mill was the close-knit, community atmosphere. This allowed me to become involved in extracurricular activities, sports, and take leadership roles that I may not have had the chance to take if I went to a high school with a greater number of students. Although I had never played lacrosse before, I tried out to be on the team. I met a lot of new friends, and ended up having a great season, and was honored to be elected as one of the co-captains. My experience at Patterson Mill and the leadership opportunities that this school provided me with helped me to become outgoing, positive and hardworking. These are traits that I took with me in my journey to live and work as a teacher in NYC. I try to instill these traits and others in to my students each day!
